The Alaska Earthquake Center is a cooperative environment where well-empowered collaborative teams execute projects and operations. The duties of a Seismic Analyst are to analyze and evaluate Earthquake Center seismic data to (1) curate the comprehensive catalog of seismic events in Alaska; (2) monitor the quality of the Earthquake Center's seismic waveforms and catalog; and (3) investigate and report unusual events that appear in our data.

To thrive in this role you must enjoy working with people, solving puzzles, and uncovering unique signals to better understand Alaska's distinct environment regarding hazard, risk management, and research. While a degree and background in geophysics or geology are preferred, many can excel with a background in solving time-series data. This position requires an applicant to work on-call at times and weekends when large earthquakes occur - but - does allow for overtime.

There are also opportunities to work with the Field Team performing maintenance on the 250 stations across Alaska, work with the Systems Team to engineer software solutions, or as part of the Communications Team to relay information and science to the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years college coursework in a field relevant to the research and two years experience in a field relevant to the research or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is full-time, Grade 77, continuing, non-exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.

This position is located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Remote work agreements will be considered for this position.
