Our online publication and community portal for pharmacists, medical professionals and students, is launching a sister website in its online network titled Black Speaks, which is a consumer niche portal providing news, work/life advice, resources and a forum for discussing issues facing African-American professionals, medical or nonmedical.

Features on Black Speaks will include national and international news, content from partners and sister sites, beauty tips and trends, fashion, social issues, health and fitness, lifestyles, sports and videos.

Currently, seeks teachers, youth guidance counselors for troubled youth, education experts and youth-oriented social workers who can serve as advice columnists or freelance writers on guidance and instruction for troubled youth, spotlighting memorable teachers and the importance of African-American teachers in the lives of children and youth. The ideal columnist or writer would be a teacher, youth guidance counselor, education expert or social worker who needs exposure.

Our Facility is Located: * In North Kansas City * Northeast of Downtown Airport * Just west of North Kansas City High School * Near Briarcliff Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Head Start Teacher shall assist in the day to day responsibilities in accordance with licensing, Head Start performance standards and YMCA standards. Responsibilities * Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. * Demonstrate knowledge of the theories of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support. * Understand the underlying philosophy of Head Start. * Promote and support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. * Lead the teaching team in planning and implementing curriculum and assessment. * Provide individualized attention to the children in order to enhance their learning and development. * Establish and maintain an appropriate classroom learning environment and daily routine, with attention to standards of health, safety, organization, and aesthetics. * Lead and model professionalism and teamwork within the teaching team and the site. * Develop and maintain supportive, professional relationships with children and their families to enhance parent education, communication, involvement and advocacy. * Responsible for directly supervising and developing the classroom staff and managing the day-to-day operations in the classroom. * Develop and implement lesson plans. * Assure that learning experiences are developmentally appropriate, and relevant to children's interests and daily lives within the context of family, community, and culture. * Observe and document children's learning and development on an ongoing and consistent basis. * Lead teaching team discussions of observations to plan individual and group learning experiences. * Interact with children, providing positive role models and guidance * Establish and maintain respectful, responsive relationships with children. * Establish and follow a consistent appropriate daily routine. Assist children with their daily routine activities. * Prepare the physical environment, assuring that planned activities can occur effectively. * Ensure that site-appropriate health, safety, and sanitation guidelines are followed. * Create an environment that is aesthetically appealing to children and adults, as described in the Constructivist Curriculum Plan. * Conduct and document formal coaching sessions and performance appraisals annually, as well as 45- and 90-day appraisals for new hires. * Coach and mentor Teacher Assistants to support them in meeting work and professional development goals, to encourage positive performance and effort, and to address performance improvements needed. * Manage daily classroom activities in compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and State Licensing requirements. * Maintain certification and stay current with all requirements for Infant/Child CPR and First Aid. * Participate in all required training and attend a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education/professional development annually. * Encourage the involvement of families in the program and support the relationships between children and families. * Conduct and document parent/ teacher conferences and/or home visits held at least four times per year. * Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families. * Engage in professional communications with families and appropriate staff to ensure that support is provided to children and families. Qualifications * Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Associates or Bachelor's degree with 30 credits of ECE. * Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education strongly preferred. * Minimum three years' experience working in an early childhood classroom setting preferred * Have the ability to complete multiple projects and meet deadlines * Perform daily activities while planning for and moving toward long term objectives * Work well both independently and collaboratively with others * Good written and oral communication skills Ymca Kansas City North Kansas City MO
