In this role, you will lead seed analysis activities, contributing to the advancement of agriculture in South Dakota. As the manager, you will supervise a team of professionals, ensuring accurate and efficient seed testing processes. The recruitment of this position will be filled internally and is open to all current, full-time SDSU employees. The Seed Testing Laboratory is maintained by SDSU to test seed samples for farmers, seedsmen, the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture. Our lab is equipped with the modern testing equipment necessary to perform tests on the seeds of agricultural crops, grasses, flowers, trees and vegetables.

The crucial components of the Seed Testing Laboratory are teaching, training, and research. The Seed Testing Laboratory also conducts seed-related research and provides training, supplies, and direct assistance for faculty, graduate and undergraduate research. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Seed Testing Laboratory is the State's official seed testing and analysis laboratory. This position will support SDSU's plant breeding programs to conduct seed analysis activities and serve agriculture in South Dakota. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Earned Master's degree in Agronomy/Botany or closely related field by date of application; At least 5 years of experience in native seed testing (wildflowers, grasses, aquatics, etc.) as well as traditional Midwest crops (cereals, corn, soybeans, alfalfa, sorghum, etc.); Association or Society accreditation - Certified Seed Analyst in both Purity and Germination or Registered Seed Technologist; and Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
