Responsible for providing mid-level technical support in the installation, repair, and maintenance of security systems equipment and access control systems.
Description of Duties
Responsible for providing mid-level technical support and skills in the repair and maintenance of all physical security systems in operation at UTRGV.
Provides and maintains access to security systems and access control systems.
Responsible for the review, evaluation, and maintenance of the access control software system and hardware for all passageways throughout all UTRGV campus locations.
Supports the daily operation of security systems and required system upgrades.
Maintains in-car mobile video camera systems.
Provides maintenance to mobile data communications equipment.
Maintains an accurate maintenance program including record documentation.
Plans, schedules, and performs preventative maintenance on all security systems equipment and servers according to manufacturer's specifications, departmental guidelines, appropriate training, industry standards and best practices and in compliance with federal and state laws.
Based on area of assignment, will need to collaborate with University Police Department/ Security Systems area.
Performs analysis, development, and testing of access and locating equipment malfunctions for systems and services.
Assists in evaluation and implementation of campus-wide physical security projects.
Organizes and maintains critical and confidential physical security related records, inspection documents and purchase orders.
May assist with providing training in the use of security cameras and video management systems to end users.
Must be required to be available on an "On call" basis. Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education
Completion of technical diploma or certificate program in electronics or a related field.
Licenses/Certifications
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of security systems and equipment, or;
No experience with an Associate Degree in IT or a related field.
Preferred Experience
Experience with integrated security systems. Direct knowledge of various alarm systems functions, telephone/intercom systems and security video recording systems.
Equipment
Use of standard office/security system/video equipment. Needs to have knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment, hand tools, and network/IP equipment. Knowledge of Security Camera Systems and Video management tools.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Indoor/Outdoor environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Ability to climb ladders, stairways and work on buildings rooftops of high elevation. Ability to work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under crawlspaces and manholes. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds above the head. Exposure to weather and potential occupational hazards. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

This position will be subject to a pre-employment physical. Accuracy in providing diagnostic information, providing specifications, operational or setup data and while using instruments, tools and equipment. Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, the Board of Regents, Chief of Police, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement concerning age requirements and physical, mental, and educational standards. Strong communication and verbal skills. Strong attention to detail.
