Job Requirements

Responsible for maintaining the safety of guests and employees, carding guests, escorting disruptive guests from the restaurant and monitoring restaurant crowds.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain safety of guests and employees and card guests entering the restaurant

  • Available to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends

  • Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment

  • Ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction

  • Ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment

  • Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels

  • Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and anticipate guests' needs

  • Use tact and good judgement when dealing with guest challenges and respond to guest needs with patience and courtesy

  • Follow carding/identification guidelines, according to state and restaurant specifications

  • Determine accurate wait times and communicate to Managers and Hosts

  • Organize lines outside of the restaurant and cordially inform guests of any wait time

  • Immediately communicate any issues with questionable guest behavior, lines, wait times, special needs, etc. to Management

  • Serve as backup to Management with handling any guest issues, disruptive or unruly guests

  • Maintain an accurate head count of guests who enter the facility

  • Ensure that all pathways and fire exits are clear at all times

  • Proficiency in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment, including radio equipment

  • Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures

  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook

  • Get along well with others and be a team player

  • Other duties will be assigned as needed

Department 2012780 Surgery-Ohns About the Unit The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago develops, tests, and implements evidence-based interventions, tools, and technology designed to promote very young children's cognitive and social-emotional development, with a priority placed on that of children living in poverty. TMW interventions are designed to be overlaid onto existing health, education, and social service systems working at scale in a given community in order to meet families where they already are. Our goal is to effect population-level change in children's academic and developmental outcomes. The TMW Center team is rapidly growing as we develop, test, and scale our evidence-based interventions. Because of our location at the University of Chicago, we are also fortunate to engage undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in our work. We seek an experienced Manager who will lead the cultivation of our students and staff and thoughtfully create opportunities for further professional and personal development and engagement of our team. The ideal candidate is relational, organized, oriented toward mentoring and development, and has vision for cultivating a strong, diverse, and supportive team culture. The Manager of People, Talent, and Culture will cultivate strong and diverse candidate pools and lead the hiring of new staff, lead the recruitment and staffing of students to TMW Center projects, create and connect team members to learning and development opportunities, foster the team culture, manage HR systems and processes for staff and student onboarding and offboarding, and provide general office administrative and operational support. Job Family Administration & Management Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and managing daily operations individual organization units, clinical research facilities, centers or academic departments. Responsibilities are diverse and general in nature and may reflect more than one functional area. Career Track and Job Level Business Administrator Manages the daily operations of an organizational unit within the University, primarily in the areas of financial, events, and support services management. May assist in developing and executing University's business plan. Develops and implements office procedures and policies and ensures compliance. Note that the M4 job level is restricted for Associate Deans (Chief of Staff for administrative units) and will reflect a direct reporting relationship into the Dean or Officer (limit one per unit). Business Administrators who report to the Deputy Dean or an AVP will either be aligned with the M3 job level, M2 job level, or transitioned into their respective functional area (i.e. IT, Communications). P2: Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills. Builds knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Solves a range of straightforward problems. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction. Role Impact Individual Contributor Responsibilities The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems for a broad range of business operations and academic activities. May prepare and monitor the budget for a unit. 1) Performs some routine and complex assignments for the unit usually in the areas of finance, event planning or support services. Initiate the hiring process of students and staff for a unit, which includes the processing of payroll, 2) Responsible for training office staff on office procedures and compliance protocols. Coordinates special projects., 3) Assists in the monitoring of the various financial and budgetary activities, including vendors contracts. Preparing and monitoring the budget for a unit., 4) Researches and analyzes data to create reports, and may create other reports for grants and contracts., 5) Performs other related work as needed. Unit-specific Responsibilities 1) Work with project and team leads and TMW Center leadership to identify staffing needs.Develop job descriptions, cultivate and screen diverse candidate pools, manage the interview and hiring process with Department HR. 2) Manage staff onboarding and offboarding in close coordination with the position's manager and Department HR. 3) Find and develop opportunities for professional and personal development for TMW Center staff. 4) Cultivate positive, supportive, creative, and hard-working office culture.Organize professional development opportunities and team-building activities for TMW Center staff and students to engage in with each other. 5) Advise, support, and recommend concepts for programming and professional development to COO and TMW Center leadership. 6) Manage the annual performance review and merit increase processes across the TMW Center, maintaining close coordination with Department HR and TMW Center leadership.Set internal deadlines and provide support to managers in the development and execution of their performance reviews and merit increase process. 7) Manage promotion processes in close coordination with the COO and TMW Center leadership and with Department HR partners. 8) Provide support to managers and team leads to address performance concerns with their direct reports.As necessary, lead performance improvement and/or termination processes. 9) Manage HR systems and processes, in close coordination with Department HR. 10) Together with managers and team leads, identify needs for student staffing support across TMW Center projects. 11) Recruit, hire, onboard, and staff students to projects (roughly 30 students work for TMW Center at any given time, with bulk of hiring occurring for fall quarter and summer) in collaboration with Department HR. 12) Implement strategies for student retention and development; create learning, mentorship, and research opportunities to engage students throughout their academic careers. 13) Provide general management and administrative support for students, including general office orientation, ensuring completion of required online trainings, and time management on Workday. 14) Market student recruitment events throughout the year. Develop and implement protocols for evaluating the effectiveness of student hiring, retention, and support 15) Manage and allocate office resources such as workspaces, computers and phones, common spaces such as the conference room and lunch area, and office supplies. 16) Order and organize general office supplies and needed materials for TMW Center projects.. 17) Work with hospital facilities to coordinate maintenance of the office space, such as general repairs and cleaning. 18) Develop, maintain, and train on office-wide policies such as travel documentation and reimbursement and emergency preparedness plans.
