Can you help Akamai tell its security story? Help our customers and prospects understand our security model? Help our researchers get their findings into the minds of security decision-makers?

Join us as the editor of Akamai's quarterly State of the Internet/Security report and other security publications.


  • Bring grammatical clarity and stylistic elegance to content generated by technical security professionals; edit content to suit the intended audience and publication medium.

  • Find common themes in Akamai-produced security research and weave a narrative that ties them together for publication in Akamai's State of the Internet/Security report.

  • Apply journalistic skepticism to Akamai-produced content in order to correct for unintentional bias and ensure that all published conclusions or claims are defensible with a journalistic standard of evidence.

  • Apply knowledge of statistics to validate conclusions found in Akamai-produced research.

  • Participate in the design and development of data visualizations as an author and an editor.

  • Work with Akamai's Public Relations, Creative and Marketing departments as well as various research groups both inside and outside of Akamai to produce timely content for publication to Akamai's websites and in print.

  • Build or maintain a personal reputation in the security community, including by writing and through social media.

  • Field questions from the press about Akamai security publications.

  • Identify and execute improvements to the quality of Akamai's customer security communications.

  • Tell the Akamai story in an open, consumable, fashion. Based on existing Akamai documentation or oral knowledge, create a market-facing vision of Akamai that is usable by customers, auditors, partners, and internal stakeholders.

About the Team

Akamai's InfoSec Team is responsible for safeguarding the security of the business, from corporate information security through protection of the production systems on the Internet. We engage with every organization at Akamai to support ongoing projects, design security solutions, investigate security incidents, conduct compliance audits, and manage day to day tasks like oversight of vulnerabilities

Required Education and Experience

  • 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree or it's equivalent, or

  • 3 years and a Master's degree or it's equivalent, or

  • PhD or it's equivalent experience.

Required Skills

  • 5 years of technical writing experience

  • Experience in statistics, data visualization, or statistical communication *Demonstrated ability to articulate security concepts to lay-people.

Desired Skills

  • Established reputation in the security community.

  • Previous experience working within a security company or in the security media with a focus on digital publications

  • Experience in traffic management, production management, or managing publishing logistics.

  • Credited as author or editor in a public body of publications

Fort Lauderdale office location preferred, remote applicants will be considered.

We are seeking a visionary, insightful Editor-in-Chief to lead this initiative. The Editor-in-Chief will have the unique opportunity to shape a prominent journal in vibrant fields of research and lead the editorial team according to his or her creative vision. As a respected member of the global research community, the Editor-in-Chief will create a high-impact journal grounded in a strong understanding of the different fields and the needs of authors, readers, and reviewers. S/he will be responsible for defining the aims, scope, and formats for the journal, building a strong network of leading researchers working in relevant areas, recruiting exciting studies, and ensuring the quality and value of the journal as a forum for the best work across the entire field. This journal aims to publish significant advances in all areas of physical science research, including all aspects of chemistry, material science, energy research and relevant environmental and earth science. Its strong contribution to the field will complement the premium chemistry and energy journals from Cell Press, Chem and Joule, as well as the upcoming journals on sustainability and material science. The journal will employ an open-access model similar to Cell Reports for the life sciences. Cell Press is a dynamic, interactive and creative scientific community located in the heart of Cambridge, MA. With 90+ PhD scientists, a forward-looking and experienced editorial support and digital production team, a results-driven marketing and press office, and a vibrant commercial partnership group, Cell Press aims to facilitate effective scientific exchange and is a leader in communicating the most important scientific findings. This position requires a strong research background and broad scientific interests. The successful candidate will demonstrate dedication to serving the scientific community, enthusiasm for communicating science to a broad readership, and the ability to lead the editorial team. The minimum necessary qualification is a doctoral degree and post-doctoral work in relevant areas. Interested applicants with a current academic appointment but who are seeking new challenges in an editorial/publishing role are encouraged to apply. Previous editorial and/or management experience is strongly preferred.
