OverviewA Security Officer I is responsible for providing services that seek to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community. The Security Officer 1 undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property.

Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Degree
Experience:
Security Officer Experience
Healthcare Security Experience
Law Enforcement background

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
Must possess excellent communication skills
Must be able to work with all customers (associates, patients, physicians, public)
Must be able to perform duties in a multi-task environment with multiple priorities.
Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational, cultural and lifestyle backgrounds.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations
Knowledge of Federal Communications guidelines regarding radio traffic etiquette.
