OverviewAssist the Security Manager in successful attainment of the department's goals and objectives. Support and assist the Security Manager in the control of the department and perform various duties to direct and control the operational functions and staff of the department. Aid in assuring a continued atmosphere of safety and security throughout the entire hospital complex, the Security Officer Lead I will direct and coordinate the activities of the on shift personnel. Promote professionalism among all on shift personnel by providing leadership, direction and undertaking or participating in other activities to foster and improve the individual performance of department staff thereby enhancing the operation, image and reputation of the Security Department.

Essential Job Skills/Duties

  • The Security Officer Lead I will promote the philosophy, programs and initiatives of JRMC and Support Services

  • Provide feedback to Department Manager on the performance of staff assigned and activities within the department as they affect operations

  • Act as liaison between Security Officers and the Security Manager

  • Schedules and assigns officers to cover shifts when needed.

  • May be assigned by department manager to work on department schedule. May be assigned by department manager as the designee to sign all PL request forms or other forms.

  • Assure Security Officers are performing duties appropriately

  • Assists Security Manager in educating Security Officers in any new policies, procedures, equipment or techniques. May be required to train new officers.

  • Directs staff as assigned in the absence of the Manager. Assign work, respond to requests and assures completion

  • Be on-call when department manager is unable, due to absence (vacation, sick leave, etc.)

  • May be required to perform other duties expected by the department manager

Special Skills/Knowledge

  • A high degree of intra-personal communications skills are necessary as the Security Officer Lead I must interact with a wide range of individuals exhibiting various behavioral patterns, both normal and abnormal.

  • The Security Officer Lead I will be called upon to perform a wide range of services, both routine and emergent, to enhance and facilitate the overall operation of the hospital. The Security Officer Lead I will continually strive to provide all services in a manner that reflects the overall commitment of the hospital to excellence in all phases of the health care delivery system and in a manner respecting the dignity and rights of the individual.

  • Recognizing the complex issues of legalities inherent to the security profession, the Security Officer Lead I remains cognizant of his/her activities as they relate not only to hospital policy, but also to civil and criminal law, the rules of common sense and reasonable, prudent action. The Security Officer Lead I governs their reactions to situations based on known policies and procedure, established plans, knowledge and experience, within a framework of reasonable reactive response.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma / GED

Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement Degree preferred

Experience:

One year experience in the field of security and/or law enforcement.

At least one year experience in Healthcare Security preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English

Must possess excellent communication skills

Must be able to work with all customers (associates, patients, physicians, public)

Must be able to perform duties in a multi-task environment with multiple priorities

Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations

Knowledge of Federal Communications guidelines regarding radio traffic etiquette
