External Salary Range: I13//$41,376.01 - $46,901.23 (Steps 1-4)

The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below.

The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.

Office of Campus Police Services' mission is to provide a safe and secure campus for our community. The Department consists of an Operations and Administrative Office: The Operation Section includes sworn police officers, security officers, and public safety telecommunicators. Services provided by the Operations Section include calls for police services, taking reports of crimes and complaints, student and staff escorts, in addition to many other services. The Administrative Section provides administrative support to the department, which includes record keeping services, providing discovery for attorneys, and processes report requests for involved parties.

Position Summary:

The Office of Campus Police Service is seeking a Security Officer to join the team. The selected candidate will patrol an assigned area of offices, buildings, and grounds including parking areas, and makes the required reports. They will also prevent unauthorized persons from entering the grounds and buildings, and oversee automobiles and trucks entering and leaving the college. The selected candidate will take action as required to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, disorder, and/or damage to state property and equipment, and note and report conditions which constitute dangers and hazards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Protection of buildings, contents and occupants from hazards.

  • Provide escorts for students, faculty and staff members as requested on campus.

  • Direct traffic in and around the campus and regulate and controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic at designated public intersections to assure safety, reasonably rapid movement, and a minimum of interference.

  • Open and close gates, doors, windows, and raises and lowers flags.

  • Give assistance when accidents or illness occurs in emergencies and summons the police and /or the fire department as needed.

  • Assist the police with the maintenance of order on the campus.

  • Take needed action as to suspicious persons and conditions, and report significant actions, occurrences, and conditions.

  • May be required to assist with building evacuations during times of danger or drills.

  • May be required to work off hours, evening, nights, weekends and holidays.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a high school or vocational high school or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.

  • New Jersey driver's license in good standing.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • May require sitting/standing for extended periods of time.

  • May require lifting moderately heavy objects.

  • May be required to work outdoors in varied and possibly extreme weather conditions.

Employer Qualifications:

  • Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of background check and reference checks.

  • Residency Requirement: In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70, effective September 1, 2011, new public employees in certain positions (faculty exempt) are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one (1) year of employment.
