The Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe environment on campus by assisting those in need and evoking a feeling of security to all by being accessible and alert at all times.
Patrols campus buildings and grounds, greets and directs students and visitors, focuses on crime prevention, protection of life and property.
Maintains high visibility through foot patrol and motor patrol across the campus.
Responds to and mitigates emergencies, disturbances, conflicts and other stressful situations.
Answers, responds, and investigates burglar alarms, fire alarms, and emergency telephones throughout the campus.
Monitors security surveillance systems.
Completes daily log and writes incident reports for daily activities and irregularities, such as: safety hazards, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and criminal activity.
Calls and cooperates with police, fire, or EMS in cases of emergency and directs them to the location of the incident
Answers telephone calls, take messages, answer questions, and provides information during business or non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.
Enforces policies and procedures for Rowan College of South Jersey which include warning or citing persons of rule infractions or violations.
Escorts or drives motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations
Maintains security-issued equipment.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
High School Graduate or GED Certificate
S.O.R.A (Security Officer Registration Act) certification preferred
Certification in CPR and First Aid, or obtain certification during probationary period
Previous experience in the field of security, educational setting preferred.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
Possession of a valid driver's license, in good standing.
Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet department and College needs
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, walking, or running over uneven ground, bending, reaching, and may involve lifting and carrying items weighing over 50 pounds
Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment
