Under general supervision of the Director of Security, Security officers enforce OSF Saint Francis Medical Center policies and regulations. Security patrols various Medical Center facilities and grounds, to secure the safety, health, and welfare of patients, visitors, and employees by intercepting unauthorized individuals and investigating unusual incidents. In doing so, examines entrances, exits, and windows to ensure they are secure, inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred, and reports all irregularities.
Ability to read and write in order to review and complete required incident reports and write clear and concise reports in a timely manner that are admissible in a court of law.
Ability to read and evaluate incident reports for accuracy and content.
Current and appropriate State vehicle operator's license required.
Must complete Field Training Officer program, within designated times outlined in the FTO policy.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively interact with a variety of Medical Center employees, patients and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations.
Must demonstrate skills in investigations, evidence, prosecution and identifying potential security of theft problems.
Knowledge of current laws of arrests, search and seizure and to ensure that all related activities are conducted in an appropriated legal manner.
Knowledge of OSF SFMC Security policies and procedures and the ability to enforce them in a safe and legal manner.
Ability to perform and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner with minimum amount of supervision.
Must successfully complete the required Security Defensive Tactics course within the required time period.
Have knowledge and ability to use the security department's database which includes the security computer for report writing, daily log, safe-keeping and operation of the camera.
Knowledge of the physical layout of all OSF SFMC properties.
Knowledge and skill growth through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to stay abreast of the latest trends in safety and security.
Demonstrate proper use of radio and telephone procedures.
Have the ability to operate jumper cables, when necessary, to assist those in need.
Demonstrate good verbal skills including the ability to de-escalate potentially violent situations.
Demonstrate the ability to operate and have knowledge of security cameras, including the ability to download recorded data.
