Under general supervision of the Director of Security, Security officers enforce OSF Saint Francis Medical Center policies and regulations. Security patrols various Medical Center facilities and grounds, to secure the safety, health, and welfare of patients, visitors, and employees by intercepting unauthorized individuals and investigating unusual incidents. In doing so, examines entrances, exits, and windows to ensure they are secure, inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred, and reports all irregularities.


Ability to read and write in order to review and complete required incident reports and write clear and concise reports in a timely manner that are admissible in a court of law.

Ability to read and evaluate incident reports for accuracy and content.

Current and appropriate State vehicle operator's license required.

Must complete Field Training Officer program, within designated times outlined in the FTO policy.

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively interact with a variety of Medical Center employees, patients and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations.

Must demonstrate skills in investigations, evidence, prosecution and identifying potential security of theft problems.

Knowledge of current laws of arrests, search and seizure and to ensure that all related activities are conducted in an appropriated legal manner.

Knowledge of OSF SFMC Security policies and procedures and the ability to enforce them in a safe and legal manner.

Ability to perform and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner with minimum amount of supervision.

Must successfully complete the required Security Defensive Tactics course within the required time period.

Have knowledge and ability to use the security department's database which includes the security computer for report writing, daily log, safe-keeping and operation of the camera.

Knowledge of the physical layout of all OSF SFMC properties.

Knowledge and skill growth through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to stay abreast of the latest trends in safety and security.

Demonstrate proper use of radio and telephone procedures.

Have the ability to operate jumper cables, when necessary, to assist those in need.

Demonstrate good verbal skills including the ability to de-escalate potentially violent situations.

Demonstrate the ability to operate and have knowledge of security cameras, including the ability to download recorded data.

Security Officer Location: Methodist Campus Shift: full time/40 hrs per week-3rd shift 11P-7:30A Summary: Security Officers provide assistance to and assure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Officers also protect the property of the Medical Center, and perform other functions as assigned or required. Responsibilities Accepts the role of providing personal service tasks 1. Provides direct service or help make other arrangements. 2. Understands and accepts the role of providing support services. 3. Provides alert, helpful efficient responses to phone callers. 4. Uses good documentation skills for report writing and record keeping. 5. Performs specific security tasks as directed such as money transports, escorts, hazard inspection, etc. 6. Effectively patrols Medical Center buildings and property. 7. Maintains order by enforcing all hospital & department policies. 8. Assertively responds to and handles all dispatched calls. 9. Adhere to all department and Medical Center policies & procedures. Displays professionalism in fulfilling job responsibilities 1. Maintains an excellent appearance and follows department dress code. 2. Is attentive to post duties and job responsibilities. 3. Represents department well when interacting with others. 4. Is dependable in reporting for work, reporting on time, and does not abuse mealtime or break time. 5. Conduct is a credit to the department, and does not abuse authority or use position for personal gain. 6. Shows self-initiative in performing all tasks and duties. 7. Follows up and carries through on all work assignments. 8. Performs assigned tasks accurately. Effectively monitors Security and fire alarm. Responds to stats, disasters and codes following policies and procedures. 1. Monitors and responds to access controls, panic alarms, fire computer and alarms, intercoms and CCTV monitors. 2. Promptly acknowledges incoming Security calls or alarms and dispatches Security officers to the appreciate locations. 3. Must maintain and enhance their knowledge and capabilities during emergency and non-emergency situations, performing multiple duties rapidly, calmly, and effectively to achieve the responses needed. 4. Keeps abreast on all call disasters and security policies. 5. Contacts appropriate personnel for all codes, disasters and stats. Uses problem-solving skills to make proper decisions. 1. Gathers all pertinent information to make decisions. 2. Uses common sense/good judgment and is resourceful in solving problems. 3. Takes initiative in making decisions and taking action. 4. Maintains calm approach in stressful situations. 5. Has a good knowledge of MMCI and Security Department operations. 6. Utilizes CPI methods as team member to control aggressive or violent patients and visitors. Qualifications Education: 1. Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or corrections or commensurate experience preferred Credentials: 1. Valid Driver's License in the state of IL 2. Additional Information: preferred that the incumbent complete at the earliest possible time, the 40-hour basic Security Officer training course conducted by the State of Illinois. 3.Must have MVR run annually. Experience: 1. Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or corrections along with 1 year security experience or a minimum of 3 years experience in Security, Law enforcement or corrections preferred.
