The International Monetary Fund is looking to hire a Security Officer for the Latin America and Caribbean Region to join its IMF Headquarters. This is a contractual appointment for two years, renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service pending the incumbent's performance and continuous business needs.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Security Officer and under direction of the Head, International Security unit, the Security Officer (Regional Security Advisor) plans and carries out the IMF's field security operations for any assigned region. Primary functions include monitoring the security situation worldwide; conducting security risk assessments; providing briefings to IMF personnel; assisting in the development of international security policies; coordinating emergency responses; drafting security and safety guidance for management, Executive Directors, IMF staff, technical experts, and other IMF employees traveling on mission or assigned to overseas locations; advising as to how best to protect IMF information and physical assets at overseas locations.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Collect, collate and analyze security threat information.

  • Provide timely situation assessments and recommendations for action during security incidents affecting the IMF.

  • Conduct country security risk assessments in assigned region to determine risk levels for IMF personnel and operations.

  • Prepare daily and weekly security reports covering significant security-related incidents and provide analysis of how each event impacts the overall safety and security of IMF personnel and operations.

  • Prepare and deliver security briefings for IMF missions travelling to high-risk locations.

  • Prepare security communiqus to update IMF personnel on major security developments and their potential impact on IMF operations.

  • Provide regular updates on recent security developments in high-risk locations in the assigned region.

  • Establish productive liaison with security departments at the UN, the World Bank, diplomatic missions and vendor security information providers.

  • Establish and sustain close working relationships with IMF managers and field-based IMF personnel to exchange security information and provide advice.

  • Provide security advice and assistance to other regions as necessary and undertake other tasks as assigned. Security Officer is to take the lead in working groups among several Security Officers, or, on occasion, alone or primary workload in initiatives such as EAP program administration, Compliance administration, database and geocoding development, advice sheet development, document management, after action reviews, GSOC training and instruction, support for Security Services' training programs and other tasks as assigned.

The Country Analysis division of the EIU is seeking to recruit a Research Analyst for Latin America and the Caribbean. In this entry level position, successful applicants will be responsible for the production and quality of EIU products. Among the key tasks involved in the role, the Research Analyst will produce economic and political forecasts for specific countries and write analysis on economic, political and policy developments in Latin America and the Caribbean. Accountabilities How you will contribute: * Produce economic and political forecasts for selected countries * Write and edit ongoing analysis on key events as they happen, ensuring that agreed norms for frequency of coverage are maintained * Ensure that the designated part of the regional product range is written to a high standard * Identify accurate and informative sources on events affecting the forecast as they happen * Interpret events within specific countries with a particular focus on whether and how they might impact upon EIU forecasts * Play an active role in producing original country and regional content work that develops the EIU view on the region * Support the consulting and sales teams to deliver projects as required * Be responsible for finding and commissioning suitable external contributors to provide additional analysis of political and economic events within the countries of responsibility * Carry out a comprehensive first edit on contributors' input, checking accuracy, ensuring all the relevant information is presented in accordance with EIU style guide and product guidelines * Build a network of sources in academia, business and government to draw on for research purposes * Play an active role in team discussions on regional themes and the development of the regional view Experience, skills and professional attributes The ideal skills for this role are: * Strong writing and editing skills in English, and an ability to write well under time pressure. * Relevant degree in Economics or related subject. Ideally Master's degree or equivalent. * Knowledge of macroeconomics and forecasting * An interest in current political and economic developments in the region and an understanding of how they are likely to affect economic trends * Strong international or regional knowledge is desirable.
