Security Officer

This Security Officer position monitors security of faculty, staff, and students as well as the facilities and equipment of the college. Duties include conducting security patrols, identifying and investigating suspicious or hazardous situations, reporting findings to the supervisor and documenting incidents. This position will monitor and operate computerized fire and security systems, write parking violations, provide escort services, and assist in training part-time security personnel.

Primary duties include:

• Unlocking and opening doors.

• Unlocking and jump-starting vehicles

• Providing directions.

• Responding to medical emergencies, performing CPR and/or First Aid, assisting injured persons.

• Assisting medical, fire, or police personnel as necessary.

• Arranging for proper exhibition and maintenance of flags.

• Directing traffic, and other related responsibilities.

Other Skills and Knowledge required:

• Ability to walk extensively and climb stairs.

• Ability to become CPR and First Aid certified.

• Knowledge of security practices and procedures.

• Knowledge of traffic and parking regulations.

• Knowledge of general KVCC conduct rules.

• Skill in operating emergency equipment.

• Skill in administering CPR or First Aid.

• Skill in recognizing safety, security and health hazards.

• Skill in documenting observations.

• Skill in communicating with faculty, staff, students and the public.

• Skill in monitoring fire and security systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education equivalent to a high school diploma and experience equivalent to one year in a position that requires decision-making and following directions.

• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

• No prior criminal history.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Physical Demands:

• Extensive standing and walking.

• Ability to lift and pull up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to walk extensively and climb stairs.
