Overview

Perform protective, preventative, safety and security related enforcement functions touring hotel complex to ensure the safety and well being of all hotel guests, associates and vendors. Implements and monitors all related SOP's, Mission Vision and Values in a courteous and restrained manner in coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats.

Responsibilities

  • Spend majority of shift on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions. Requires verbal communication using pager and two way radio, bending, stooping and kneeling.

  • Maintain order in the hotel, dealing with the welfare of guests, and assisting with door lock problems. Coordinate expedient response to emergency conditions such as fire, fire or safety hazards and threats to life and/or property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner.

  • Handle undesired conduct and potential violations of hotel policy as warranted for the security and safety of hotel guests, associates, patrons and property. Requires grasping, lifting and or carrying or otherwise moving persons, packages, luggage, wheelchairs and safety equipment using manual dexterity of hands.

  • Watch for suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around building. Conduct walk through observations of entire hotel. Promote safe work practices.

  • Answer security telephone and safety hotline calls and respond in a timely manner based on priority.

  • Observe the security monitors for any unusual activity and in the case of suspicious behavior report directly, via radio, to the supervisor on duty; report any alarms similarly.

  • Memorize and monitor life safety system installed at property including layout of entire building, alarm pull stations, location of fire extinguisher and sprinklers.

  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.

  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.

  • Can communicate well with guests.

  • Must be willing to "pitch-in" and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.

  • Thorough knowledge of the layout of the building, function rooms, and some knowledge of the city and surrounding areas.

  • Ability to stand, walk and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for duration of shift with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on the property with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 150 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity in hands with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders at a rapid pace. Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc.

The incumbent will conduct routine surveillance of facilities, grounds, parking areas, and property, maintain access control, and provide general security services to employees, members, and visitors. This position will proactively work with the Security team and agency employees.</p><p>WHAT YOU WILL DO:</p><p>Surveillance</p><ul><li><p>Monitors agency facilities, grounds, and parking areas utilizing a computerized security monitoring system of more than 200 security cameras.</p></li><li><p>Monitors, operates, and responds to computerized alarm systems.</p></li><li><p>Monitors movements and actions of service, trade, custodial, and other personnel after normal working hours utilizing computerized security monitoring systems.</p></li><li><p>Performs motorized security cart and foot patrols of agency facilities, grounds, and parking</p></li></ul><p>areas.</p><ul><li>Is observant of and notifies appropriate personnel of safety hazards, damaged or faulty equipment, and other unusual occurrences.</li></ul><p>Access Control</p><ul><li><p>Programs and issues agency access/identification cards for staff and contractors to provide entry into designated areas.</p></li><li><p>Monitors access card usage and control devices utilizing computerized security monitoring system and investigates any suspicious activity and/or unsecured areas.</p></li><li><p>Prevents unauthorized personnel from entering facilities.</p></li><li><p>Maintains accurate key inventory, including detailed record of keys issued and keys returned.</p></li><li><p>Escorts employees and visitors to and from parking areas and throughout facilities during non-business hours and/or as necessary.</p></li><li><p>Maintains records of parking assignments, including communicating with staff and modifying parking assignments as necessary.</p></li><li><p>Monitors parking, issues citations, and communicates with staff and managers regarding parking violations.</p></li><li><p>Completes daily reports and other special reports as required.</p></li><li><p>Accepts agency related deliveries during non-business hours.</p></li></ul><p>Security</p><ul><li><p>Provides general security services for employees, members, visitors, and agency facilities, grounds, and property.</p></li><li><p>Protects agency facilities, grounds, and property against theft, fire, and vandalism.</p></li><li><p>Provides prompt response to emergencies and other security related situations throughout agency facilities, grounds, and parking areas.</p></li><li><p>Promptly notifies appropriate emergency services as necessary.</p></li><li><p>Provides security for surface parking lots and parking garage as necessary.</p></li><li><p>Assists with responsibility for operations of security control room as necessary.</p></li><li><p>Corrects minor safety and mechanical hazards when possible.</p></li><li><p>Ensures compliance with energy conservation practices during nonbusiness hours.</p></li><li><p>Provides other security related agency support as necessary.</p></li></ul><p>Performs related work as assigned.</p><p>WHAT YOU WILL BRING:</p><p>Required Education</p><ul><li>High school graduation or equivalent.</li></ul><p>Required Experience</p><ul><li>Two (2) years of full-time security experience.</li></ul><p>Required Registration, Certification, Licensure</p><ul><li>None.</li></ul><p>Preferred Qualifications</p><ul><li><p>Valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record.</p></li><li><p>Relevant prior military, law enforcement and/or corrections experience.</p></li><li><p>Experience with computerized security and alarm systems.</p></li><li><p>Experience with DNA Fusion Access Control and Security Management System software.</p></li><li><p>Experience with Salient Surveillance software.</p></li><li><p>Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and automated external defibrillator</p></li></ul><p>(AED).</p><ul><li>Fluent in functional English and Spanish.</li></ul><p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p><p>Knowledge of</p><ul><li>General security and surveillance practices, computerized security and alarm systems, and customer service principles and practices.</li></ul><p>Skill in</p><ul><li><p>Using a computer in a Windows environment with word processing and other business related software.</p></li><li><p>Effective verbal communication, including telephone communication and active listening.</p></li><li><p>Effective written communication, including writing clear, concise, and legible reports.</p></li><li><p>Providing quality customer service.</p></li></ul><p>Ability to:</p><ul><li><p>Exercise sound judgment and initiative.</p></li><li><p>React quickly and calmly in emergency situations.</p></li></ul><p>Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Codes:</p><p>Veterans, Reservists or Guardsmen with experience in the Military Occupational Specialty ( http://www.hr.sao.texas.gov/Compensation/MilitaryCrosswalk/MOSC_AdministrativeSupport.pdf ) along with the minimum qualifications listed above may meet the minimum requirements and are highly encouraged to apply.
