Position Purpose

For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years law/code enforcement and/or security/protective service experience where primary responsibilities include performing enforcement and/or investigative support.

OR

  • Thirty (30) completed college semester credit hours plus one (1) year of the stated experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

OR

  • Sixty (60) completed college semester credit hours (or more) will meet the education and experience requirements.

OR

  • A minimum of thirty-six (36) months active service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America with an Honorable Discharge will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

  • Must obtain Level II & III Security Commission Certifications issued by the Private Security Bureau of the Texas Department of Public Safety within probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Must pass intensive background investigation, physical, eye exam, polygraph, psychological exams, as well as drug and alcohol testing.

  • No FELONY convictions.

  • No class A MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last five (5) years.

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY(IES):

  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

  • Ability to walk extensively, bend, carry and lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds.

  • Subject to inclement weather.

EXAM DESCRIPTION:

  • Exam covers public relations, complaint handling/resolutions and reading comprehension of legal materials.

  • Time Limit: Two (2) hours.

  • PICTURE I.D. REQUIRED

On a routine basis, inspects grounds to ensure security requirements are met. Controls and monitors access to building. May be required to enforce parking regulations and report fire and safety hazards. Reports atypical situations to management. May use electronic surveillance equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes positive public relations by offering courteous service to all tenants, visitors, and guests and responding to their requests. Controls access to buildings and monitors activities of visitors. Monitors and controls the building's life safety system and central security panel. Assists in emergency situations (e.g., fire, evacuations, human crises). Escalates more complex security issues to supervisors and managers. Monitors building operations and tours properties periodically during scheduled shift. Maintains daily logs and shift reports. Adheres to Security Policies and Procedures manual. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED equivalent CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES Have ability to meet licensing or certification requirements. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely under stressful situations. FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE Ability to calculate simple figures. REASONING ABILITY Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (training available). Requires thorough knowledge of all emergency equipment, including but not limited to, Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Pumps, Access Systems, Water Risers, Cutoff Valves, and Electrical Circuits. Ability to walk/stand 8 hours per day, operate an extinguisher, lift 50 pounds, and effectively transport an adult in an evacuation chair or similar transportation equipment.
