Security Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Security Manager to join our team. This person provides technical management and oversees Maritime Security program, including armed robbery, piracy, cyber risk and LRIT program to ensure owners, vessels and seafarers compliance with Maritime Laws and Regulations, and other applicable International and Regional instruments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages maritime security to ensure vessel compliance with applicable International Conventions and instruments and Maritime Laws and regulations.

• Monitor, report and initiate Registry’s reaction to global, regional and local security matters affecting registered vessels. Monitors maritime security and piracy threats and makes recommendation for deterring incidents and setting of Maritime Security Level 1, 2 or 3 as defined by the ISPS Code.

• Manages review process of Privately Manned Security Companies (PMSC) for authorization to engage security personnel on registered ships.

• Communicate maritime security and piracy threat information and Security Level with our Fleet.

• Develop and provide operational guidance to clients concerning Maritime Security.

• Prepares and maintains Marine Notices, Advisories and other Registry related publications on implementation provisions of SOLAS, the ISPS Code and other international instruments applicable to the position.

• In coordination with other Depts., conducts review and analysis of inspection and audit reports and other data related to monitor performance of vessel and company compliance and to identify trends and corrective action for improvement.

• Manage the Long Range Identification and Tracking Data Center, including non-LRIT reporting ships, issuance of LRIT conformance reports and annual LRIT testing on our fleet.

• Participate in meetings, conferences relevant to Maritime Security.

• Schedule additional ISPS audit whenever is necessary in Waypoint.

• Maintained Annual, weekly, and daily statistics of security breaches and incidents in a PBI report or other means, including relevant reporting to IMO GISIS platform.

• Carry our audit confirmation as required.

• Train and supervise staff.

• Performs other duties and projects as required.

Experience, Education and Certification

• Bachelor of Science, Business Administration or Maritime Transportation/Engineering

• Shipboard experience as licensed deck or engineering officer, ship security officer

• Company security officer experience preferred

• Formal training or certification in Maritime Security

• Trained and qualified as an auditor or assessor

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Comprehensive understanding of maritime security, including threat evaluation and detection techniques.

• Comprehensive understanding and ability to effectively interpret Maritime Law. Maritime Regulations, and International and Regional Treaties such as, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ILO and RFMOs.

• Speak and understand and promulgate notices in English

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office application and use of General office equipment

• Understand budgets and basic accounting principles

• Ability to operate as a team leader and work in a team environment

• Ability to organize and prioritize work, delegate effectively and meet deadlines

• Excellent English.

• Familiar with ISPS Code, ISM code and ISO 9001-2015

• Well developed interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to enter and retrieve data from the following Data Programs: Access and Oracle.
