Job Summary:

The Security Engineer reports to the Global Practice Leader for Security. This position will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of unique and/or customized technology solutions in the areas of Operational Technology (OT) including networking, servers, virtualization, and security technologies for projects across the globe. The candidate has thorough knowledge of how to assess existing systems, implement new networks and systems and develop secure designs along with supporting procedures and processes that comply with current industrial control system cybersecurity standards and guidelines.

The Security Engineer is aligned to the Intelligent Systems practice group and is focused on providing services for internal and external clients across all of Jacob's client sectors. The position is part of a team that provides design, implementation, maintenance and consulting services for OT aspects of Industrial Control Systems (ICS), include Internet of Things based solutions. The team is a geographically and socially diverse group of practitioners that delivers exceptional service to internal and external clients for various industry markets including water systems, electric utilities, oil & gas, transportation, and smart cities.

With a focus on critical infrastructure, the team designs and implements operational technology solutions for projects to enable compliance with cybersecurity best practice, regulations and guidelines to effectively operate and maintain designed solutions. Our Security Engineers:

  • Architect and design secure operational technology solutions, based on proven security architectures

  • Support project teams to achieve client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.

  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.

  • Mentor staff associates within selected practice area and review the work of others.

  • Maintain a close relationship with clients and track upcoming project opportunities including collaboration on project pursuits.

  • Participate in the design, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of ICS networks.

  • Handle complex problems during design, installation and maintenance for ICS networks.

  • Interact with internal and external clients, vendors and subcontractors. Travel to project sites, as needed, to provide support during pre-design, design, construction and commissioning of ICS networks.

  • Provide ICS OT infrastructure design expertise for physical layer, converged platforms, virtualization, networks, security platforms and various other OT technologies.

  • Engage in the installation and configuration of network switches, routers, firewalls, virtualized servers, converged platforms, client workstations and various cybersecurity platforms and tools.

  • Provide detailed network, cabling, server, rack elevation, and logical architecture diagrams for design and as-built submittals. Develop acceptance testing procedures and user manuals as needed.

  • 5 years of IT or OT experience with LAN and WAN design, implementation and troubleshooting for switches, routers, firewalls and various other network equipment.


  • 5 years of IT or OT experience with Microsoft Windows Server design and administration, virtualization and converged platform technology design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience.

  • 1-2 years of experience on industrial networks or systems.

  • 2-5 years of firewall and network architecture experience.

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related discipline.

  • Excellent oral and written communications, team-oriented work practices, strong data analysis skills, technical problem solving ability, organizational skills, multitasking ability and excellent computer skills.

  • Experience with the development of technical design documentation and technical reports is desired.

  • Professional certifications such as GIAC Certifications, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), Microsoft Certifications (MCP, MCSE, MCITP), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA, CCDA)

The Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) is the USAF's premier space acquisition agency providing cost-effective, long-term, critical capabilities to support the war-fighting mission of the combatant commanders. In order to meet current and projected workload requirements, the SpRCO will augment its organic (military and civil service) capabilities with a selective group of Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) personnel who are recognized as superior performers. The SpRCO SMEs will provide Space-centric operational and technical services throughout the acquisition life-cycle. The objective is to provide specialized expertise to complement the organization's inherent resources for effective and efficient mission accomplishment and continuity, introduction of innovation, and enhancement of technical competence. The team shall support the entire spectrum of acquisition efforts as necessary to support the SpRCO. Responsibilities: * Assist in development of acquisition strategies and prepare acquisition documentation/products in support of various acquisition programs * Execute and evolve Government-approved enterprise Cyber Security architect and engineer duties in accordance with (IAW) D0DI 8510.01 and DoDD 8140.01 Cyberspace Workforce Management * Support cyber security activities for space, ground, operations, logistics, and sustainment elements of the enterprise by identifying risks, issues, and interdependencies between system elements, contracts and stakeholders * Define system security requirements, assesses system security architecture designs, and support the development and sustainment of an enterprise level Risk Management Framework (RMF) program * Ensure that the cyber security architecture and design of the customer's systems is functional and secure * Develop Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP's) to monitor, identify, respond, and protect the systems from cyber-attacks * Attend required meetings, conferences, reviews, and briefings Requirements Required Skills: * 15+ years of experience in Cyber Security with 10+ years of knowledge/experience with satellite systems, Space Ground Systems, and experience with the Air Force customer * Experience with Cryptology is highly preferred * Background in System Administration, Network engineering, and/or Cyber Engineering * Familiarity with D0DI 8510.01 and DoDD 8140.01 mandatory * Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills required * Clear and concise written and verbal communications skills * In depth knowledge of DoD 5000 instructions; required to maintain cognizance of evolving acquisition guidance Required Experience: * Bachelors degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or related discipline with 15+ years satellite subsystems knowledge and experience on satellite development programs * Past acquisition experience highly desirable * Must be certified in one of the following: Security+, CISSP, MCSA/E, CEH/CPTE * Active TS/SCI required, with a minimum of five years of SAP experience is required to be considered for this position CA (for internal purposes only) Linquest Corporation Albuquerque NM
