The Highlights

The Security Engineer is responsible for engineering activities that monitor, detect and alert on potential security threats and vulnerabilities to the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems. In this role, you will work closely with network engineering and technical operations staff as security threats and vulnerabilities are detected and coordinate the response to contain and mitigate the threat to our network. You will also lead and coordinate the incident response process for network security operations and communicate event status to leadership.

What you will do

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the client experience

  • Implement processes and controls that acquire and correlate security relevant system and application log data to alert and report on potential security events

  • Monitor security dashboard alerts to identify and lead the response and mitigation activities for the security events

  • Implement, maintain and monitor threat intelligence data that is relevant to the organization's networks and systems

  • Recommend and coordinate the implementation of security counter-measures with appropriate organizations

  • Design and implement an effective vulnerability and configuration management infrastructure and processes to ensure our network and services are securely configured and appropriately protected

  • Analyze and revise existing system logic to detect security threats

  • Coordinate and control response to cyber incidents

  • Perform forensics analysis and evidence gathering for known security events

  • Design and implement security systems and tools used by Network Security Operations and provide ongoing system support

  • Ensure compliance with security standards, policies and procedures

  • Adhere to industry-specific local, state and federal regulations

Required keys for success

  • Three to five years of IT/network experience

  • Three to five years of information security experience

  • One to two years of information security operations experience

  • Demonstrated experience in managing information security events and incidents for large and sophisticated networks

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to work across functional boundaries, build consensus and drive results

  • In-depth knowledge of network and system security vulnerabilities and exploits

  • Understanding of what is required to prevent security exploits, how to detect security attacks and anomalies and how to respond to security incidents and intrusions

  • Strong knowledge of forensic methodologies and best practices to investigate intrusions, preserve evidence and coordinate a unified security response

  • Problem solving skills, able to balance competing priorities, have a strong process orientation and be able to manage through complexity and rapid change

  • Effective communication skills

How you will stand out from the crowd

  • Botnet and Denial of Service detection and remediation

  • Ethical hacking and penetration testing

  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)

  • Computer forensics

Your education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems or related field, or equivalent experience

  • Current security certifications, such as CISSP, CEH and SANS GIAC, firewall, intrusion detection systems and router engineering

This position also leads and coordinates the incident response process for network security operations and communicate event status to executive leadership while developing security policies, standards, configurations and counter-measures. What You Will Do * Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. * Design and implement processes and controls that acquire and correlate security relevant system and application log data to alert and report on potential security events. * Monitor security dashboard alerts to identify and lead the response and mitigation activities for the security events. * Implement, maintain and monitor threat intelligence data from various resources that are relevant to Charter's networks and systems. * Develop and coordinate the implementation of security counter-measures with the appropriate organizations. * Develop and recommend security policies, standards and configurations to the Security Governance committee. * Design and implement the system logic to detect security threats. * Lead the incident response and escalation processes. * Lead and perform the forensic analysis and data evidence gathering for all security events. * Recommend, design and implement security systems and tools used by Network Security Operations and provides ongoing system support. * Develop security requirements for new projects and performs security testing prior to going into production. * Perform and coordinate engagements with 3rd party service providers to perform ongoing security testing on critical assets. * Ensure compliance with security standards, policies and procedures. * Adhere to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
