The Commissioning Engineer shall design, troubleshoot, install, repair, maintain and support access control systems, electronic key systems, locking devices, visitor management systems, IP video surveillance and any other hardware related to those systems and devices. The positions first responsibility is to be the technical subject matter expert on the solutions deployed. Additional responsibilities include managing the financial health of all projects and maintaining customer satisfaction. The position also requires management skills in addition to leadership responsibilities.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design, program, install and maintain locking devices and related hardware on all doors, including low voltage electric door hardware

  • Design, program, install and maintain video surveillance systems including cameras, software, and peripheral devices

  • Setup and commission servers, workstations, switches, phones and other network devices

  • Troubleshoot from both hardware and software level

  • Remotely support Prime technicians and Prime clients

  • Provide design and engineering expertise in all systems supported by the engineer

  • Deliver technical presentation and demos

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on alarm, access, and video systems

  • Program alarm systems, access systems, and IP video surveillance systems

  • Ensure departmental daily records are maintained and accurate

  • Interact with all clients and be the face of Prime Communications

  • All other assigned duties

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Associates Degree or equivalent (technical background is required)

  • Strong networking background is required

  • Must understand the fundamentals of electricity including relay logic circuits

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the security industry

  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work and be successful with limited supervision

  • Must be willing and have the ability to move into a management position

  • Experience with low voltage wiring and knowledge of the aspects of security equipment (cameras, mag-locks, panels, etc.) installation is required

  • Must have a good understanding of strike wire, data cabling, connectors, door contacts, hardware, and installation of cameras and software

  • Must have experience using test equipment

  • Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to travel to regional job sites

  • Ability to read blue prints is required

  • Must have the ability to hear tones and audio from test and operational equipment

  • Good judgment is required

  • Must be organized

  • Strong customer service skills are required

Work independently to provide security for state property, respond to emergencies and alarms and provide assistance to state employees and the public. Perform vehicle and foot patrols of interior and exterior of buildings, fire monitoring, use an electronic guard tour system, access control and enforcement of building and parking rules/regulations. Operate audio/visual monitoring devices, monitor computer security system, control after hours building access by employees and visitors. Maintain a summary record of all shift activities, complaints and report to supervisor; learn and maintain "information" to locations to assist visitors. Salary: $12.180/hourly + $0.60/hourly shift differential Job location is the Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K Street, Downtown. Second shift (3:00 pm - 11:00 pm) Shift may involve working days, evenings, and nights along with weekends and holidays as needed for 24-hour coverage. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class. PREFERRED: One year of security experience and Microsoft Office. Requires certification in first aid and CPR or must obtain within first six months of employment.
