FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
What we're looking for
Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a proven law enforcement leader to serve as its next Chief of Campus Police. The desired candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed professional dedicated to community-oriented policing strategies and have an outstanding ability to work with and develop teams. The Chief of Campus Police is responsible for overseeing the professional and administrative functions of the FSDB Campus Police Department, including planning, organizing, and directing its operations and activities. This position operates under the administrative guidance of the Administrator of Business Services while allowing significant discretion for independent judgment and initiative. The desired candidate is required to maintain effective working relationships with the Administrator of Business Services, the President's Advisory Team, the Board of Trustees, other campus personnel, representatives of a variety of state and municipal agencies, and the public. Principal duties are performed in a general office environment, and in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. The candidate must demonstrate a dedication to maintaining the highest level of school safety standards in alignment with policy, rule, statute, and best practices. The candidate must display the character and confidence required to guide operations while inspiring stellar performance among Campus Police staff members.
How you will make an impact
This Business Services leadership position plans and directs the operation of the Campus Police Department, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Chief of Campus Police maintains an operation which supports and enhances the mission of FSDB, thereby striving to mitigate and prevent physical harm, property loss, and disruptive activity. The duties and responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of fiscal and human resources through a commitment to effective communication, quality standards, and compliance with policies, rules, and laws.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; five years' experience in law enforcement; three years' experience in supervision; current Florida Department of Law Enforcement certification.
Preferred
Master's Degree from an accredited university with an emphasis on law enforcement and public safety leadership; ten years' experience in law enforcement supervision.
Sign Language Requirements: Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire. Please note: FSDB provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range: 12-month position, $71,877.14 - $79,377.14 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.
Associate degree addl $1500.00
Bachelor's degree addl $3000.00
Master's degree addl $4500.00
Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) @ addl $150.00 per year
Sign Language Proficiency Level: Survival Plus $300.00, Intermediate $450.00, Advanced $600
Hours: Monday- Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm, with flexibility maintained to support a 24/7 operation
