Section 504/Americans With Disabilities ACT (Ada) Specialist Job Details | Broward County Public Schools

POSITION GOAL

The Section 504 ADA Specialist will provide personalized support based on identified needs of school-based 504 liaisons. The Section 504 Specialist will work in collaboration with all stakeholders in order to keep The School Board of Broward County, Florida in compliance with the Section 504 laws through training and support. The Section 504 Specialist will strive to ensure eligible students have educational opportunities equivalent to those of their non-disabled peers.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

• A minimum of five (5) years experience in a school based setting as an ESE Specialist, School Counselor, School Psychologist or in a field related to the title of the position.

• Knowledge of Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

• Excellent oral, written and communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal, and analytical skills.

• Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• An earned master's degree from an accredited institution.

• Bilingual skills.

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Works extensively with 504 Liaisons at schools to provide support and ensure a thorough knowledge of Section 504 processes and procedures. This position frequently collaborates with the following school board departments: Equal Educational Opportunities (EEO), Legal, Coordinated Student Health Services (CSHS), Transportation, Exceptional Learning Support (ELS), and the Guidance Office to ensure district wide compliance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
