As a law firm, the Legal Clinic has about 60 practicing law students and professors who are divided into individual clinics that specialize in a range of practice areas including transactional business law, criminal defense, juvenile law, wills and conservatorships, domestic violence law, and community economic development work. The Legal Clinic ASA position exists to provide support, in all aspects of each of the dual facets, to the students and faculty who work in the clinic. The ASA must meet all of the requirements of an academic unit and, additionally, must adhere to standards of professional conduct applicable to law firms. Specifically, the position: (1) provides highly specialized, technically-demanding administrative support requiring significant attention to detail. (2) implements administrative protocol and procedure for legal work and monitor adherence to them under the guidance and approval of the Director and Administrative Coordinator. (3) instructs about and is responsible for compliance with established departmental protocol and procedures and Clinic policy by all faculty, staff, and students. (4) provides teaching, scholarship, and travel support to the full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty, which includes a necessary knowledge of the tenure and promotion process. (5) drafts and assists with written and social media communications of the clinic, and engages in long-range planning and sustaining efforts with the Legal Clinic faculty and staff. Qualifications: The ASA must have: * excellent oral, written, organization, public relations and communication skills, * an ability to juggle multiple priorities with attention to detail and to deal with constant interruptions, * mature judgment and an ability to anticipate the needs of faculty and students to pro-actively solve problems, * intermediate to advanced computer skills: knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe, graphics programs, on-line computer systems, keyboarding proficiency, * advanced knowledge of the internet, search engines, and software for conversion of documents to a format for use in the Clinic, * ability to prepare and format confidential legal documents, familiarity with legal language and ethics within the legal setting, * proficiency in handling various office machines: dictation units, copiers, scanners, printers, etc. * high level of critical thinking skills enabling the employee to: Assess the importance of a problem, especially given confidential client cases, and who should be advised of such; research and offer a solution; employ ethical considerations; and recognize the boundaries between offering factual information and the unauthorized practice of law. * an ability to coordinate legal events and activities, * an ability to create student and staff trainings, * an ability to generate reports and analyze data, and * an ability to understand the promotion and tenure process.
