Responsibilities

  • As a Secretary (Office Automation), at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties:

  • Receives calls and visitors, and refers them to supervisor or appropriate staff member or office

  • Schedules appointments based on understanding of supervisor's workload and current issues of importance

  • Read incoming correspondence, and routes to appropriate person or office

  • Makes all necessary arrangements for travel, meetings, conferences, etc

  • Organize schedules of visits, makes transportation and hotel arrangements, notifies organizations, prepares agenda and other materials needed for the affair

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

  • You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a five (5) minute sample with three (3) or fewer errors.

  • You must possess knowledge of general office automation software, practices and procedures.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess one of the following:

Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-04 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:

  • Read incoming correspondence and routing to appropriate person or office;

  • Makes all necessary arrangements for travel, meetings, and conferences for a serviced program;

  • Assembles and compiles data from a variety of sources for use in response to requests for information or, to create various reports;

  • Reviews outgoing correspondence for the supervisor's signature for proper format, conformance with procedural instructions, correctness of grammar, typographical accuracy, necessary attachments, and appropriate coordination.

OR

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or a bachelor's degree.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:

  • Perform clerical support work utilizing computer software (to include spreadsheets, databases, and graphics) to produce, store and retrieve a variety of office documents and/or reports.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
