Duties
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Independently resolving issues in the absence of the Chief of Staff (COS)
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Arrange appointments and manage calendar of the COS
Perform secretarial duties in support of the COS and subordinates at times
Performing general office work in support of the organization
Recommending changes to administrative policies as necessary
Preparation and editing of correspondence for and arranging for signatures as required
Serves as a resource to secretaries and managers subordinate to the COS
Serves as receptionist to the Medical Center Director's Suite as necessary
Ability to tactfully deal with complaints of nurses and other staff
Preparation and tracking of proficiency and performance reports
Serves as contact for issues that may be elevated to or come from VISN, VACO and federal and state congressional offices, private health care organizations, Veteran service organizations, employees, Veteran and/or their families and the public
Correlate data into useful formats using Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point or other software applications as appropriate
Coordination of conference calls, meetings and possible schedule changes
Arrange transportation and accommodations for staff and speakers
Attending and preparation of meeting minutes as required
Ordering of office supplies
Tracking monthly and quarterly reports and submit final reports in a timely manner
Other duties as assigned
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current permanent Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6 grade level.
For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7 grade level.
You may qualify based on your experience and as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-7:
I have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level of Federal service (GS-06). Examples of specialized experience would include but not limited to: receives telephone calls and visitors; prepares correspondence and reports; proofreads all incoming and outgoing correspondence for grammar and spelling; independently develops and presents information; schedules conferences and meetings and shifts schedules as needed; prepares travel arrangements; accepts or declines invitations, sets up, reschedules, or refuses appointments on supervisor's calendar; maintains confidentiality on all sensitive items.

Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
