WHAT IS THE TAXPAYER SERVICESDIVISION?

Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:

Taxpayer Services Customer Assistance, Relationship and Education-Field Assistance Area 4

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.

  • Receives telephone calls and visitors, determines the nature of business, gives routine and non-routine information, answers questions in accordance with Service policies and operations or directs callers and visitors to appropriate person or office.

  • Where applicable, provides basic coordination and pertinent information on office functions to subordinate clerical staff and managers and other organizations. Coordinates with the appropriate higher level office to ensure clerical staff receive necessary training.

  • Prepares and types a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, requisitions, requests for personnel actions and legal documents using an electronic typewriter, word processor, or personal computer.

  • Receives and controls mail and suspense items, routing them directly to the appropriate person or office for action, follows up on outstanding controls and assembles background information before routing mail to the supervisor.

  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.   • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service.

One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-5 Level:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

Experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of specialized experience include: providing telephone and receptionist services; Maintaining records; Requisitioning office supplies; Filing material and maintaining office filing system; Receiving and controlling incoming and outgoing correspondence and reports for format, grammar, and punctuation; Writing simple or repetitive, non technical correspondence such as letters of acknowledgment; Scheduling appointments and preparing notes regarding topics to be discussed; Ability to operate a variety of office hardware and software systems and knowledge and skill applying grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

OR

Bachelors degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.

OR

An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. Only education in excess of 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours or 1440 classroom hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement for the GS-5 level.

For example, one full year of academic study (30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or 720 formal classroom hours) beyond the second year is equal to 6 months of specialized experience. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college or university.

Education

For positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

  • Friday 8:00 am

  • 4:30 pm

  • Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available.

  • In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location.
