SECONDARY SCHOOL ART TEACHER

(1.0 FTE)

Qualifications:

• State of Michigan Teacher Certification

• Visual Arts Education (LX, LQ, or LZ) endorsement

• Experience teaching secondary students

• Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs

• Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress

• Successful classroom management strategies and skills

• Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans

• Experience in utilizing a variety of assessments to inform teaching

• Willingness and commitment to include equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices

• Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators

• Ability to motivate and inspire students

• Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology

• Ability to understand, value, and positively respond to the unique developmental traits of students

• Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures

• Excellent organization and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)

• Ability to promote the arts and provide students a strong art experience

• Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement committees, and professional development opportunities

• Ability to differentiate instruction

• Ability to be enthusiastic and flexible

• Ability to teach subject content in an integrated manner

• Understanding of developmentally-appropriate curriculum

• Belief that all children can learn and understanding of differences in students

• Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

• Team approach to planning and school-wide initiatives

• Ability to research, innovate and implement new and developing methods and technologies in the visual arts

• Ability to provide explicit examples of successful transfer of studio skills to those of real-world job/employment applications

• Understanding of the IB Visual Art program

Location: East Grand Rapids High School and East Grand Rapids Middle School

Rate: Per Contract Salary Schedule
