Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with JX or JQ Endorsement
Duties/Skills/Qualifications:
Instruct students in grades 6-12 in activities designed to promote a flexible choir program and provide an environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability;
Ability to teach a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to provide a variety of musical experiences;
Ability to plan a balanced vocal music program that includes music theory, musicianship, technical vocabulary in music and music performance;
Deliver standards-based music instruction to develop music concepts and skills;
Support other performing arts programs and collaborate with others in the district to maintain vertical alignment of the overall music program;
Ability to increase the excitement for vocal music with our students and our community;
Ability to provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate and showcase (individually and in groups) the skills and talents developed in the music program, including the development and directing of all secondary choir performances;
High level of organizational skills and ability to establish and maintain effective classroom management for learning;
Create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all students;
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students;
Works cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, parents, community members, and partners to improve instructional programs for student success;
Good attendance and punctuality;
This position will require travel between two separate buildings;
All other duties as assigned by the administrator;
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing;
Ability to relate and work effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community;
Knowledge and awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others;
Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District;
Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage;
