SECONDARY MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT (MTSS) INTERVENTION SPECIALIST 24/25 SY
SUMMARY: The MTSS Intervention Specialist helps to establish and implement behavioral interventions and supports. As well as coordinate, perform and track school interventions and trainings for certificated and classified staff so that they develop, manage and deliver effective behavior intervention services to students and implement behavior systems. They also provide temporary support and assistance to classroom staff throughout the building as necessary for extreme behavior issues and difficult student transitions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be fully certified with a Washington State Teaching Certificate
Must meet Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) Requirements Evidence of successful experience in working as instructor or specialist, with students at appropriate grade level and in subject area
Strong classroom management skills
Genuine desire to work with all students
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to collaborate with other staff members
Ability to organize and lead a team
Ability to effectively use technology
Ability to use Microsoft Office suite and Google Classroom
Ability to speak in front of staff
Ability to maintain a positive attitude
Ability to remain flexible
Ability to handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, respectful and receptive attitude toward exceptional needs students of varied age groups
Work with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with such students
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults contacted in the course of work
Training and understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences, Trauma Informed Practices. Resilience-Building Interventions, Positive Behavior Interventions and Culturally Responsive Practices
Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies, ability to apply a gradually progressive system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively deescalate potentially dangerous situations
Ability to implement strategies for the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention systems, behavior plans and current accepted best practices for students with autism, ADHD, and other behavioral challenges
Knowledge of applicable directives, standards, procedures, policies, rules, regulations, codes, laws and guideline governing discipline and special education
EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content knowledge in the area of K-12 Education
Provide an optimum learning environment for all students
Meet with classroom teachers weekly to: communicate student progress, identify students in need of intervention, develop learning goals, and develop learning plans
Meet with principal regularly to deliver student data and discuss program objectives / progress
Assist principal in leading staff meetings regarding MTSS work
Deliver Social Emotional Learning instruction in the classroom
Administer diagnostic and progress monitoring testing
Record and track data for student growth
Prepare reports for student growth
Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with district policies and procedures as required
Works directly with students regarding their behavioral goals and implementation of behavior intervention programs.
Provide training, assistance and guidance to school staff in behavioral intervention procedures.
Facilitate student support team meetings
POSITION INFORMATION:
Full time position, 183 days per year
