JOB SUMMARY: This is an exciting opportunity for a secondary language arts teaching position that provides education services to a variety of students in a rural junior/senior high school setting. Santiam Canyon School District operates on a 4-day school week and is located near the Salem area.

Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and proudly serves the communities of Mill City, Gates, Detroit, Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns, Santiam Jr./Sr.

High School is an ideal location to teach and collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential. This position is responsible for providing academic skill development to a variety of students in a classroom setting. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can stand together with us as we help our students find their path to success.

Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are for 170 work days.

REPORTS TO: Santiam Junior/Senior High School Principal

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties of this position include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
Plans and supervises purposeful and engaging lessons.
Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Instructs students and assigns relevant independent work.
Grades papers, assignments and assessments promptly and accurately.
Tests and evaluates students' abilities and progress. Have knowledge of state standards and testing requirements and how to implement these assessments.
Prepares report cards and progress reports.
Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable.
Supervises students in hallways before, after and between classes, in library, and at specials events.
Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email.
Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
Complies with applicable District, state, local and federals laws, rules and regulations.
Attends work regularly and is punctual.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or university or at least one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent strongly preferred. Must be highly qualified under the reauthorized ESEA. Prior successful experience teaching students in a school setting strongly preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including meeting current highly qualified requirements under the reauthorized ESEA. Must have a valid teacher's license and subject specific endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) OR have an ability to obtain the needed endorsements, CPR/First Aid card and Oregon Driver License.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract. Our district operates on a 4-day school week.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
