Comments: This is a grant funded, temporary position for the 2023-2024 school year with a flexible schedule during regular school hours supporting Secondary grade level learners in Math. Candidate selection preference will be given to Bilingual individuals.

NOTE: Position is temporary for the 2023-2024 school year only.

Summary:

The role of Intensive Math Tutor for Secondary is done for the purpose/s of providing in classroom tutoring to students (e.g. bilingual) that are below grade level in math and/or struggling with math due to language and/or gaps in learning skills. Intensive Math Tutors will work with the district lead(s) to develop and implement tutoring schedules which support student learning needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing in classroom support to students (e.g. bilingual) who are below grade level in math and/or struggling with math due to language and/or gaps in learning skills

  • Ability to guide and support students understanding of algebraic problem-solving and formulas.

  • Assist students in their efforts to better understand concept, skills, and processes in math.

  • Team with District Math Instructional Coach/Grant coordinator to build tutoring schedule to provide mathematics services to students.

  • Coordinate with building coordinators to "push" into classroom to support student.

  • Attend 10 hours of training prior and during tutoring time frame.

  • Work with classroom teachers to support instruction.

  • Model and support a safe and positive learning environment.

  • Follow all District Board Polices and professional expectations.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The environmental factors described here are representative of those that may be present in the workplace while the employee performs the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred bilingual

  • Required ability to demonstrate understanding and application of middle/high school (secondary) mathematics (e.g., pre-Algebra, Algebra, etc.)

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance upon hiring.

Certificates:

Documentation of ability to work in the United States.
