SECONDARY INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER

1.0 FTE

Qualifications:

• State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (JX or JQ endorsement)

• Experience teaching band at the middle school and/or high school level

• Ability to teach band class and lead the marching band program

• Willingness and commitment to include equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices

• Ability to be enthusiastic and flexible

• Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators

• Ability to motivate and inspire students

• Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology

• Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs

• Ability to understand, value, and positively respond to the unique developmental traits of students

• Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)

• Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement committees, and professional development opportunities

• Ability to continue to develop a tradition of excellence in marching band, symphonic band, concert band, and other bands

• Willingness to organize, direct, and supervise summer band components (band camp, marching rehearsals, etc.)

• Ability to provide leadership in the planning and execution of school concerts, performances, and festivals

• Ability to promote recruitment and retention of students in the instrumental music program

Willingness to maintain an active role in all local, district, regional, and state activities related to the instrumental

• music program

• Willingness to work within a fine arts department that includes choral and theatrical productions

• Willingness to collaborate and communicate with an active parent music boosters organization

• Ability to manage a budget for the instrumental music program

Location: East Grand Rapids High School and East Grand Rapids Middle School

Rate: Per Contract Salary Schedule; may include additional marching band stipend
