JOB TITLE: Secondary Paid Classroom Teacher Internship

JOB SUMMARY: This person will be certified in math, science, Spanish or special education. This person will provide support to the classroom through engaging in classroom management, instruction, and support for students. This person is encouraged to engage in the culture of the school site while participating in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with individuals, small groups, or the entire class to support teaching of content.

  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.

  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students at all times, to include awareness of emergency procedures.

  • Support a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity and interests of the students.

  • Perform other related duties as directed by the principal or classroom teacher.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Education degree preferred.

  • Certification, or willingness to pursue certification, in the area of math, science, Spanish or special education.

  • Experience working with school age children preferred.

  • Traditional student teacher experience or previous full-time teaching experience in a public school classroom setting preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will be required to regularly stand; walk; and sit for extended periods.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.

  • The ability to communicate with various groups of people is essential. This may include communication with parents, teachers, and administrators.

  • The ability to be effectively balance time and effectiveness in an office environment, a classroom environment, and a collaborative leadership environment constitute a major portion of this job.

  • May be asked to work at multiple sites throughout the year.

  • First priority is fulfilling the daily substitute teacher need. Additional responsibilities must be fulfilled outside of the substitute obligation, resulting in frequent communication with multiple supervisors.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • $125/day

  • Eligible for a $1,000 rehire bonus for the 2019-2020 school year

  • Single Premium Health Insurance and both Employer and Employee OTRS Contributions

  • Vision Insurance; $28,000 Life Insurance (includes District and OTRS amounts)

  • Stipends paid for fulfilling positions associated with a stipend (e.g. academic team/athletics coach)

  • Issued an Apple laptop for use while employed.

  • Contract days dependent upon start date

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated time unless appropriate Principal/Personnel has been notified. 2. Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation that reflect objectives to be achieved. 3. Creates an effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district. 4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with these goals. Establishes clear objectives and communicates these objectives to students. 5. Discerns students' needs, and refers, when appropriate, to school personnel who can best help with their problems. 6. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students. 7. Plans curriculum in cooperation with administration that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. 8. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment and facilities. 9. Assists administration in developing/implementing policies, rules and regulations. 10. Attends and participates in faculty and professional activities. 11. Completes reports and other school related paperwork within time and date requested. 12. Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned. 13. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers. 14.
