Salary Range: $15.90 - $19.87 Hourly

Hiring Range: $15.90 - $17.89 Hourly

Job Summary:

The City of Greeley Water & Sewer Department is hiring a seasonal part- or full-time individual who can assist with locating, inspecting, and maintaining curbstop valves on water service lines across the city.

Scheduled Hours: 24-40 hours per week during regularly scheduled business hours, possible Saturdays

Potential Duration: May 2024 -Sep 2024, with the possibility of extension.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Ability to take systematic approach to data collection, taking accurate measurements and taking care of other data entry.

  • Valid driver license and good driving record.

  • Public relations and customer service skills.

  • Basic knowledge of pipework and plumbing.

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to handle difficult situations using tact, patience, and good judgment.

  • Ability to work independently for prolonged periods.

  • Able to operate hand tools, compressor or other similar equipment to clear debris out of curbstop and water meter pits.

  • Communication skills to act as part of a wider team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid CO Driver's License

  • Experience with water utility, construction, or maintenance of water lines.

  • Experience with data collection.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with a water utility, construction, or maintenance of water lines.

  • Experience using Geographic Information Systems is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.

Essential Functions:

  • Use map to locate curb stop and water meter outside properties.

  • Knock on customer door to let them know the water supply will be briefly interrupted.

  • Turn curb stop valve and take measurements.

  • Record data and add notes using Arc GIS software on a tablet device.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and other persons contacted in the course of the work. Able to explain the project to others.

  • Quality control of data - ensuring accurate results and double checking they are being applied to the correct property.

  • Follow proper safety practices, procedures, and fellow team members, i.e., work zone setup, traffic control, personal protective equipment, etc. Make safety suggestions as appropriate.

  • Understand and follow City, Department and Division Policies & Procedures.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Field-based position - working across the City in different neighborhoods.

  • Vision enough to interpret written documents/maps and use Tablet accurately.

  • Communication skills enough to convey information to the public and other City employees.

  • Mobility enough to inspect field sites, sometimes crossing over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

  • Physical strength to turn curb stop valves. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Dexterity to access curb stop and take depth measurements.

  • Frequently works in an outdoor environment subject to severe weather conditions, extreme heat and cold.

  • Frequently works in and around equipment, traffic and materials with fumes, noise, dust, dirt, heat, vibration, and flying objects.
