SEASONAL SENIOR LEAD PARK WORKER (PART TIME)

The City of Benicia Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Seasonal Senior Lead Park Worker. There is currently (1) vacancy and we will be establishing an eligibility list for any future vacancies.

Currently the department hopes to secure a candidate that is available Wednesday, Thursday from 6:30 AM - 4:00 PM & Friday from 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (approximately 27 hours per week).

This position is an at-will, part time position and does not receive any insurance benefits.

  • The schedule is subject to change to meet the department needs. At the time of this posting, these were the current needs to the department.

Representative Duties / Qualifications

The representative duties listed include essential and marginal functions that vary by position. Individuals with disabilities will be considered for placement into positions in this class based upon an assessment of the essential functions of the particular position.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Employees in this position may be assigned to various crews or work independently, as needed.

  • Custodial duties, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, stocking restroom supplies, etc.

  • Tasks performed by each crew include irrigation, turf maintenance, playground equipment, street planters, park planters, and special projects.

  • Pruning and trimming trees, shrubs, and ground cover using gas powered and hand tools such as shears, chain saw, hedger trimmer, backpack blowers, and vacuum.

  • Cleaning playground landing material, removing graffiti, and cleaning walkways.

  • Driving vehicles and operating equipment such as pick-up trucks, small dump trucks and lawn mowers.

  • Picking up litter in parks and landscaped areas; dumping garbage cans.

  • Opening and closing park rental facilities or athletic field complexes.

  • Assisting in the repair and painting of structures such as bleachers, backstops, benches, and concrete walkways, curbs, and slabs.

  • Attending periodic safety meetings to share and learn safety information and procedures.

DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Uses and purposes of basic tools and equipment for repair and maintenance work;

  • Basic construction and maintenance methods and terminology;

  • Some knowledge of safe work practices related to assignment.

Ability to:

  • Learn and perform a variety of unskilled and semiskilled maintenance tasks;

  • Operate light motorized equipment skillfully and safely;

  • Lift and carry equipment, tools,

  • materials and other heavy objects;

  • Perform general custodial work at public facilities and open space areas including removing trash and cleaning of restrooms;

  • Open/close park rental facilities or athletic field complexes;

  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

  • Read and write at a level for successful job performance;

  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, government officials, and the general public;

  • Work in and around traffic for long periods, outdoors and in all types of weather;

  • Walk and climb ladders, stoop, and safely lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds;

  • Appropriately select and safely use hand and power tools.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.

  • Demonstrate the ability to take care of equipment

  • Work independently, as well as, in a team environment effectively and harmoniously

  • Demonstrate initiative and display a positive and constructive attitude

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:A minimum of one year general work experience required; experience in one or more of the following preferred: Custodial duties such as cleaning, stocking, and sanitizing restrooms, graffiti removal, pruning and trimming trees, shrubs, and ground cover using gas powered and hand tools such as shears, chain saw, hedger trimmer, etc.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years or older.

  • Possession of a valid and required appropriate California Driver's License (Class C) issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

  • Must be willing to work outdoors and in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic and potentially hazardous substances; may be required to work outside of normal business hours.

  • Work outside, bend, reach, twist, stoop; stand & walk for extended periods of time.

  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects weighting between 50 to 100 pounds.

  • All job applicants must prove authorization to work in the United States at the time of a job offer.
