This is a seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days.

The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is seeking highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurses to fill numerous vacancies over multiple shifts. The days off will vary. Below is a breakdown of available shifts.
1st Shift 6:45 AM- 3:15 PM
2nd Shift 2:45 PM- 11:15 PM
3rd Shift 11:00 PM- 7:00 AM


Detailed Statement of Duties and

Responsibilities:
  • Treats all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual's needs and preferences and by optimally integrating the patient perspective into all facets of care; will advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of patient concerns and assist patients in the exercise of their rights.

  • Performs duties of charge nurse on a ward for a single shift on a regular basis.

  • Directs, supervises and provides nursing care in assigned area through shift reports, review of documentation in patients' medical records, attending staff meetings and participating in treatment planning.

  • Provides nursing care to patients by assessing health status, recording related health data, administering standard nursing treatment, evaluating patients' conditions and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers.

  • Establishes a plan of patient care through consultations with other staff and supervisors and through an analysis of data and symptoms.

  • Admits, discharges and transfers patients; provides and coordinates health teaching to maintain optimum level of health and function.

  • Responds to health and safety issues by initiating appropriate action; prepares and maintains pertinent documentation in accordance with regulatory and departmental standards.

  • Assesses, identifies and evaluates changes in patient's condition; documents and reports findings to appropriate health care personnel.

  • Performs initial investigations of complaints of patients and others and reports findings in writing to immediate supervisor.

  • Instructs ward or unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures and equipment.

  • Assesses overall functioning of nursing staff by insuring that job performance evaluations are done in accordance with both the hospital and nursing standards.

  • Administer treatment and medications as prescribed by a physician according to established hospital procedures; maintain accurate medication records.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.

WRCH provides inpatient services to 260 inpatient adults, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service; 30 inpatient adolescents and 30 residential adolescents, in either an Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) or a Behavioral Intensive Residential Treatment Program (BIRT).

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

The Department of Developmental Services is dedicated to creating, in partnership with others, innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in, and contribute to, their communities as valued members. Registered Nurse II (RN II) acts as healthcare advocate and oversight person for individuals with developmental disabilities living in residential group homes. The RN II also acts as the healthcare consultant to the residential program. Responsibilities include health care education, medical assessment and support, advocacy and liaison with health care providers, and oversight of medical records and medication administration. The RN II serves as an advocate to individuals to ensure compliance with human rights. Incumbents in this role provide primary nursing care by assessing the health status of individuals, administering/supervising treatments, recording health care, and evaluating and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers. The RN II identifies and participates in the provision of preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for individuals under his/her care. This position develops and implements health care plans in accordance with Primary Care Provider orders and established policies while integrating the behavioral and health care needs of individuals to maintain optimum health and function. The incumbent functions as a member of the interdisciplinary Individual Service Plan (ISP) Team by providing required assessments, plans, and documentation to ensure integration of health care and rehabilitative needs. The RN II evaluates the residential environment and makes recommendations to ensure health and safety are maintained and psychosocial and physical development are promoted. The RN II schedules and/or attends medical appointments to ensure coordination of medical and nursing needs and will act as liaison for hospitalized residents and their family members and/or residential service provider team members. Incumbents in this role provide direct clinical supervision and evaluation of LPN staff. The RN II maintains Medication Administration Program (MAP) trainer certification and provides training to staff to ensure regulatory compliance. This position oversees the proper use and maintenance of nursing supplies and equipment to maintain appropriate level of care. The incumbent will identify and refer clinical and administrative issues, which impact the individuals' health care, to the appropriate supervisor. The RN II will develop nursing caseload assignments in conjunction with Health Care Coordinator.
