Ashland Parks and Recreation Department is hiring up to (6) seasonal parks maintenance positions to fill a variety of maintenance needs throughout our parks program in the areas of general maintenance, custodial work and golf course maintenance.

Normal work schedule is 30-40 hours/week, work hours will vary by position. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Hours and schedule are varied and require flexibility and holiday/weekend availability. The definition of a seasonal employee is one that is hired for a specific job for 6 months or less. These types of appointments are used for positions that occur, terminate and recur periodically or regularly.

Essential Job Functions

The duties listed below are only intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related and/or a logical assignment to the classification.

Following is a list of essential job functions for parks maintenance positions - Applicants must be able and willing to perform ALLof these job functions to be considered for Seasonal Parks Maintenance positions.

ALL PARKS MAINTENANCE POSITIONS:

Maintain grounds at park facilities

Experience using hand and power tools, especially gas and electric powered weedeaters

Perform routine grounds maintenance activities including blowing, raking, and loading leaves; piling and removing brush and debris

Daily maintenance of public restroom facilities

Empties trash receptacles and picks up scattered litter throughout Ashland parks and facilities

Assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems

Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities and grounds

Adheres to all safety regulations, rules and procedures established for work areas

Works effectively with other employees and the general public; provides excellent

customer service at all times.

Other maintenance related tasks as assigned.

Some job functions are specific to certain areas of work in the Parks and Recreation Department as follows:

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE:

Maintain turf areas and non-turf areas such as sand traps and bunkers.

Change cups on greens and move tee markers.

Operate a variety of gas and electric powered equipment including mowers and

weedeaters.

Perform routine maintenance tasks including the removal of weeds, pruning, raking, removing brush and debris, digging, planting, and other general maintenance tasks.

Assist with the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.

Other maintenance related tasks as assigned.

CUSTODIAL MAINTENANCE:

Maintain public park restroom facilities: scrub and sanitize toilets, urinals, and sinks; sweep, mop and sanitize floors, walls, ceilings and exterior surfaces; replenish paper products and restock cleaning supplies.

Empty trash bins and receptacles in restrooms and parks facilities throughout Ashland.

Perform minor maintenance such as cleaning windows, painting, and minor plumbing repairs.

Experience and ability to use brooms, mops, and basic hand tools

Experience with proper methods for application of typical custodial cleaning chemicals

Other maintenance related tasks as assigned.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS for all positions

Assist with care and maintenance of hand tools.

Assist with cleaning and organization of work and storage areas.

Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently or with others.

Must be outgoing and willing to engage with park visitors

Must be responsive to verbal and written direction in order to prioritize and execute daily tasks.

At times, these positions can require extensive operation of weed eaters and other powered equipment.

Other parks maintenance duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Experience in using a variety of hand tools and power tools. Experience cleaning and/or maintaining park facilities including open areas, landscaped areas, irrigation systems and public facilities.

Substitution: Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may substitute for the required minimum qualifications. Successful candidates must have a combination of skills, knowledge and training that will enable the performance of the responsibilities outlined above.

Special requirements/licenses: Possession of valid Oregon drivers license (or ability to obtain) and acceptable driving record may be required.

Desirable qualifications: At least one-year experience in park maintenance or similar work environment that required the use of tools and equipment to perform maintenance duties.

Availabilityfor all positions: Must be able to work weekend, holiday, and early morning and/or evening hours.

Minimum Agefor all positions: 16 years of age by start date in April.

Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to various weather conditions as well as exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, chemicals and other environmental substances. Incumbents may work in or around water, dirt, oil, grease or fumes. Incumbents may have to travel to and from various job sites and may require some exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
