HOURS OF WORK: Weekday Shift:
Saturday through Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.; Weekend Shift: Wednesday through Sunday 3:00 p.m to 1:30 a.m.
LOCATION: North Maintenance Shop, 2839 Mt. View Drive, Anchorage, Alaska
This seasonal, full-time position have an estimated start date of July 16, 2018 and end date of November 11, 2018.
Example of Duties:
Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist II position will act as Anchorage's Park Ambassadors. The four main areas of responsibility for these positions will be to provide public assistance, permit coordination, education, and park security.
Each one of these responsibilities requires the incumbent to interact with park goers for the purpose of encouraging the proper use of the Anchorage parks through education, customer service, and public awareness. This is an outdoor position that requires incumbents to be able to drive, bike, and walk throughout Anchorage's park system. Perform other related duties as assigned.
If selected for hire, the applicant must be capable of communicating and interacting with others; bending, twisting, kneeling; lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in or being exposed to inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience working in public parks, recreation facilities, or other public recreation areas. Must possess prior experience in the use of recreational equipment.
Must possess the following license and certifications by the time of hire:
Valid State of Alaska Driver's License
Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification or the equivalent
Current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or the equivalent
Prefer applicants familiar with the Anchorage Parks and city resources.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of American Red Cross First Aid and CPR (or the equivalent) at time of hire.
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment
