Job Description:

North Central Surgical Center is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to join our OR team during our peak season:

  • SEASONAL
  • COMMITMENT: 12 WEEKS
  • START: ON OR BEFORE 11/1/2022
  • END: AFTER 12 WEEKS OR NO LATER THAN 12/31
  • $65.00 PER HOUR
  • $2,000 BONUS PAID UPON COMPLETION

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion bonus is to be paid after completing 12 consecutive weeks of employment while meeting all shift requirements during that time period. Only one (1) completion bonus will be paid per the 12-week commitment.

  • All seasonal RNs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period.

  • During the 12-week period, the employee must work one (1) holiday shift (defined by Department Manager or designee).

  • Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There is no guarantee of hours by the hospital.

  • Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for benefits, except 401k.

  • Current North Central employees are not eligible to join the Seasonal program.

  • Current USPI employees are not eligible to join the Seasonal program.

POSITION SUMMARY AND DUTIES:

As the RN Circulator, you will have responsibility for patient safety by designing, coordinating and delivering care to meet the needs of the surgical patient.

  • Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.

  • Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.

  • Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.

  • Prepare for and adapt procedures to meet individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Ensure all documentation and consents are complete prior to surgery.

  • Advocate for each patient's safety.

  • Follow standard policies and procedures for surgical/procedural interventions, adapting for surgeon and anesthesia provider preference.

  • Ready and prepared for daily on time case starts; on time shift arrival and work attendance.

  • Demonstrate compassion and caring for patients, their family members and surgical team members.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects; and knowledge of regional anesthetic techniques and moderate sedation.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of location, care and operation of surgical equipment/instruments.

  • Demonstrate competence in preparing and cleaning OR suites before and between cases and after terminal cases, based on patient infection classification.

  • Position, prepare skin and prevent electrosurgical events during patient care in the operating room.

  • Provide postsurgical patient hand-off report to RN in next unit of care.

  • Recognize and respond to emergencies in the operating room suite.

  • Available to take emergency Call during weekdays and on weekends as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

  • Minimum requirement is an Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Licensure: Current unrestricted Texas RN license

  • Life Support Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association

  • CNOR preferred

  • Critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with staff, physicians, patients and families.

  • Knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures specific to the operating room.

  • Clinically proficient in OR nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the developmental needs of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Able to lift, push, pull and stand without difficulty

Required Experience:

Minimum 2 year experience in an OR, Ortho and Spine preferred.

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) Fellowship/Internship is geared toward experienced RNs and New Graduates whose goal is to become a perioperative RN.</p><p>The Fellowship/Internship is a paid full time, intensive 16 week comprehensive, blended learning educational program that utilizes PeriOp 101 Core Curriculum developed by the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), lectures, demonstrations and practice labs. Each Fellow/Intern works with preceptors in specific clinical rotations.
