Maintenance and Grounds personnel care for the District properties including the school buildings and the equipment and facilities that support the work to prevent problems or interruptions to the educational process and community functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment. Unloads delivery trucks.
Attends required training sessions.
Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
Submits time sheets to Director of Operations for approval.
Wears appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
Changes oil, hydraulic fluid and filters based on hours of operation.
Cleans and maintains grounds equipment and shops.
Cleans, inspects and orders repair parts as necessary the end of the day equipment is used.
Delivers instructional materials, custodial supplies, equipment, voting machines, food, and mail.
Installs, inspects and repairs outdoor structures, sports equipment, playground equipment and signs.
Maintains the rotation of approved overtime with the grounds personnel.
Mows and documents the grass areas and sprays or line trims the perimeters.
Performs general labor outside the physical plant including district-wide grounds keeping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating power equipment, truck driving, and tree trimming.
Picks up trash and leaves, and keeps the grounds in a neat, clean, and presentable fashion.
Repairs, greases, checks fluid levels, adjusts, sharpens blades, and fuels equipment before equipment is used.
Requests and orders/purchases the necessary supplies and equipment to perform maintenance tasks.
Sets up athletic fields for practice and competition events. Sets up and/or tears down as needed for any events.
Unlocks and maintains security of the maintenance building each day and turns on/off lights according to the Energy Management Plan.
Other duties as assigned.
Maintains a valid driver's license and Certified Pool Operator status.
High school diploma or equivalent; or experience as a school custodian or equivalent; basic techniques of electrical repair, maintenance, carpentry, and preventative maintenance.
Demonstrates ability to organize, perform minor repairs and use a computer.
Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.
Knows the job well enough to perform without regular assistance.
Consistently works at a reasonable pace for the full shift with the exception of allotted breaks, and completes tasks on time.
Able to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Takes initiative to correct problems and/or requests additional resources from the Director of Operations or if required the Building Principal. Consistently works without direct supervision.
Able to apply new methods, products, equipment, and routines.
Wears the uniforms and maintains proper personal hygiene.
Willing to work with co-workers, staff and visitors and responds to requests for assistance in a courteous and timely manner.
Constantly strives to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students, staff and visitors.
Acts responsibly to ensure the safety of co-workers and one's self.
Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and previous exposure to commercial equipment.
Able to pass a physical performance assessment.
Able to climb and perform work while on a ladder.
Able to lift 90 pounds.
Must be able to distinguish colors correctly.
Able envision facility improvements and plan appropriately to implement them.
Able to understand machinery and utilize the proper tools for repairs.
Able to identify, troubleshoot and make repairs in a timely manner.
Willing to learn, listen, give and take, and share the physical loads. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
Salary: $ 15.00 per hour on an as-needed basis.
Ability to read and interpret documents and directions/instructions. Ability to speak effectively to staff, students, and community members.
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
