The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has a staffing need for skilled Seasonal Helpers at our West Point Treatment Plant. This is a great opportunity for an individual who likes a variety of work, working with a diverse team that supports the Operations and Maintenance of the West section and conveyance systems. Many of our past Summer Helpers have moved on to fully benefitted Term-Limited Temporary positions and/or Permanent Career Service positions!

About the Role:

This position will partner with Utility Workers to assist with grounds maintenance and maintaining lawns, landscape surrounding the facilities onsite and offsite locations. Major projects may include selective pruning, weeding, planting, line trimming, and pressure washing at some locations.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assist gardeners, custodians, and utility workers. Duties may include but not limited to operate of gas-powered mowers and equipment, such as chainsaws, hedge trimmers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers along with hand tools, rakes, shovels, handsaw, pruning tools.

  • Manual weeding and on occasion operating chipper maintain sprinklers and other related equipment.

  • Assist maintenance and operations personnel in maintenance by performing general laborer duties including clean-up, facilities floors, windows, various surfaces and hose various tanks, sidewalks, gas powered pressure washer and surrounding areas.

  • Move furniture and equipment and operate county vehicles with other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools

  • Experience in the safe operation of industrial pressure washers

  • Experience in the safe operation of power lawn mowers

Required Licenses:

  • Valid unencumbered Washington State Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd. Seattle, WA 98199 and other King County facilities as needed.

  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions.

  • Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division)

  • Duration: This recruitment aims to fill a Short-Term Temporary (STT) position with an anticipated duration of up to 6 months (ending around October/November, or up to 960 hours, whichever comes first).

  • Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use ladders, and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors.
