If you are hardworking, team oriented, reliable, and, customer service driven, this seasonal work is a great opportunity! You will be assigned to work on a crew performing a variety of duties which may include routine grounds keeping at Solid Waste facilities, assisting in general maintenance work, operating a variety of light equipment, cleaning up illegal dumping sites, and roadside debris removal.
About the Job
Hours of work vary depending on which team you are assigned to. Groundskeeping hours are 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Litter Crew hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Crews will be assigned on the first day of work.
There is a variety of work to be performed through spring, summer and early fall. Employment timeframe is between April 1st and October 31st. Duties may include:
o Picking up trash from grounds and roadside
o Sweeping, raking, and spreading mulch, gravel and soils
o Cleaning plugged outdoor drains and washing buildings, traffic surfaces and equipment
o Mowing, edging, weeding, watering grounds and landscaping
o Operating and maintaining a variety of light trucks and maintenance equipment
o Flagging
Candidates should be comfortable working outside and working in a solid waste environment. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively orally via radios with co-workers, leads, and supervisors.

The Solid Waste division oversees the disposal of garbage, hazardous materials, and recycling throughout Snohomish County. With three full-service facilities and an additional four neighborhood and special items facilities, the division is focused on:
Reducing overall waste from Snohomish County
Promoting and emphasizing the reuse of items and recycling
Handling household hazardous waste
Providing garbage and recycling facilities for county residents
Transferring garbage to the landfill or partnering with private vendors to handle recycled items

BASIC FUNCTION
To perform routine grounds keeping and unskilled manual labor tasks, assists in general maintenance work and operates a variety of light equipment as directed.
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and roadside; cleaning plugged outdoor drains; pressure washing buildings, traffic surfaces and equipment; shoveling and spreading mulch, gravel and soils.
Mows, edges, trims, and water lawns.
Weeds flower beds; trims trees and plants; waters and fertilizes a variety of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees.
Operates mowers, gas powered trimmers and blowers, chainsaws, vacuums and a variety of other small power tools.
Operates a variety of single axle trucks rated to 10,000 lbs GVW and less.
Performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment as necessary.
Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required.
Paints with non-powered equipment from ground level or non-powered lifting devices under supervision.
Complete records and reports as necessary.
STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES
One (1) year experience in construction and maintenance work OR one (1) year of experience in commercial gardening, landscaping or yard care; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card within ninety (90) days of employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain valid Flagger certification within ninety (90) days of employment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
The work involves a variety of manual labor tasks requiring some strenuous physical effort such as lifting objects weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
SUPERVISION
Employees report to Equipment and Vactor Facility Operator or other designated lead worker as assigned. The work is performed under general supervision and may be spot checked to ensure timely completion and compliance with instructions, procedures, and standards. Specific instructions are given for unusual or non-routine tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather at work sites throughout the county. The work may involve working at considerable heights, in confined spaces, from ladders, or scaffolding. Employees are exposed to a variety of hazards such as working near traffic, around heavy equipment, and are exposed to dust fumes, hazardous chemicals and inclement weather.
