Job Description
With limited to no supervision, the Seal Repair Technician is able to instruct, direct and assists others within the group. Has the ability to perform / assess all departmental activities and actively participate in the Continuous Improvement activities. The Seal Repair Technician will provide performance updates, skills & quality evaluations, and improvement opportunities which would be related to departmental/continuous goals. Complies with divisional and site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements. The Seal Repair Technician is responsible for all processes related to disassembly and assembly of mechanical seals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Receives John Crane parts and materials returned by customers and branch offices. Evaluates from condition of material, checks current drawing revisions and general product knowledge whether material is repairable or nonrepairable.
Identifies and inspects material returned.
May perform parts structuring, checks cost structure, and determines price of repair, ensures assembly is structured correctly, and price repair.
Determines necessary repair operations, ensures BOM (bill of materials) / drawings / repair parts match.
Performs simple operations on drill press (single spindle), tool post grinder, bead blast polisher and lapping machine.
Verifies part specifications with measuring instruments such as micrometer, vernier caliper, dial indicator and optical flats.
May Initiates purchase orders for new jobs if vendors are involved.
Consults Engineering or Sales departments as necessary.
Maintains necessary records and small inventory of seal parts used for repair orders.
Works from factory work orders, prints, rework orders and verbal instructions.
Assists newer repair personnel as necessary.
Sets up and troubleshoots lapping machines for repair maintenance.
May perform direct contact with customers on service and/or phone, checks computer system for credit and address information, price repairs.
Maintains a clean and neat work environment.
Ability to travel on an as needed basis per customer requests
Additional duties as assigned.

The Individual
High School Diploma or equivalent.
At least 2-3 years of professional mechanical experience working in an industrial shop or manufacturing setting.
Salary & Benefits
The pay range for this role is $21.00-$24.00 per hour based on level of experience.
