Department/Office: Family Enrichment Center (FEC)

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour, 0-25 hours per week depending on department need, availability of funds and student eligibility.

This position will gain marketable work experience by working with Yavapai College staff, Faculty and affiliates in a group effort to support the mission, goals and values of Yavapai College. 

The FEC Kitchen Assistant will support the FEC by:

• Assisting the FEC Cook in all aspects of meal preparation for 65 children daily
• Completing daily cleaning and sanitizing tasks
• Helping with a variety of food preparation tasks
• Unloading and put away groceries
• Minimal record keeping as needed

 All hiring documents must be completed prior to first work shift, including acceptable documentation for the I-9 Form.

• Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility, applicants must have:

• Have current aid year FAFSA verified and on file at Yavapai College

• Be funded for at least 6 credit hours while employed in this position

• Be in good financial aid standing at Yavapai College

• Have unmet need as determined by the FAFSA

• Be receiving their financial aid from Yavapai College

• Exhibit patience and a positive attitude in an academic learning environment

• Demonstrate reliability and good customer service skills

• Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrate time management and organizational skills, and ability to complete a variety of tasks on immediate or extended timelines

• Adhere to the code of confidentiality in certain cases where discretion should be used

• Adhere to Yavapai College Code of Conduct as well as FERPA guidelines 

• High School graduation or GED equivalency.

• Experience working in restaurants or other kitchen facilities.

• Positive attitude and willingness to take direction from others

• Ability to relate well to young children, staff and families.

• AZ State Food Handlers card, Fingerprint Clearance card and negative TB test, or ability to obtain.

• Minimum 6 months experience working in a commercial kitchen.

• Knowledge of nutrition, meal preparation and food safety.

• Ability to work independently in a busy work environment with time pressures.

• Experience and interest working around young children

The start date, to occur no sooner than July 1st of the current aid year, of this position will be determined by the hiring supervisor after an applicant is hired.  This position has a standard end of assignment date of June 30th of the current aid year.  Assignment may end sooner or be extended depending FWS eligibility, availability and/or department need.
