The Scribe/Certified Medical Assistant provides clinical care under the supervision of the physician(s) and practice manager for the patients of the practice. Serves as a liaison between the patients and provider. Performs Medical Receptionist and other clerical duties as requested. Scribe responsibilities include: capturing accurate and detailed documentation of the encounter in a timely manner and assisting the provider in navigating the EHR.

The team member will be responsible for traveling between multiple practice locations- Jackson, Neptune and Old Bridge

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Scribe/Certified Medical Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Monitors flow in waiting areas and exam rooms, and makes patients and team members aware of delays.

  • Performs medical assistant duties in a safe and efficient manner. Prepares patient for examination and treatment; takes brief patient history that includes chief complaint, vital signs, and weight; assists physician with procedures; draws blood and obtains urine specimens; administers injections as approved for CMAs; provides patient instructions per physicians order; conducts authorized in-office tests.

  • Proactively reviews chart in advance of patient intake.

  • Completes all authorized patient chart documentation in an accurate, legible and timely manner.

  • Responsible for the preparation of the examination rooms.

  • Monitors general clinical supply inventory and equipment.

Scribe responsibilities include:

  • Core responsibility is to capture accurate and detailed documentation of the encounter in a timely manner. Scribes are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations while capturing or entering information into the health record or EHR beyond what is directed by the provider.

  • The general duties of a scribe may vary and can include: Assisting the provider in navigating the EHR Responding to various messages as directed by the provider Locating information for review (i.e., previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results)

  • Entering information into the EHR as directed by the provider

Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited school of Medical Assisting.

  • 2 years experience in a medical office preferred

  • National Certified Medical Assistant certificate required

  • CPR certification

  • Prior scribe experience a plus!

The Certified Tumor Registrar collects necessary data by abstracting oncology charts under the direction of the Supervisor of the Tumor Registry. Responsibilities 1. Reviews the medical records for each eligible patient by analyzing the patient history, physical exam, diagnostic tests, staging, medical and nursing care to complete the abstract in accordance with ACOS Cancer Program standards, and state requirements. 2. Maintains abstracting productivity and quality rates that is compatible to the organization and national established benchmark. 3. Assists in systematic methods of case finding. Enters and/or updates cases in the suspense database. 4. Assists in maintaining a follow up program for the life of all required abstracts by reviewing hospital documentation, contacting physicians, state offices and possibly patients for current follow up information. Enters this data into microcomputer for further analysis. 5. Participates in ongoing PCE studies for the American College of Surgeons. 6. May be responsible to attend and assist in setting up on campus Tumor Conferences. 7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to operate cancer registry software to perform job. 8. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 9. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Successful completion at minimum an Associate's degree or equivalent (60 college level credits including 2 semesters of Anatomy & Physiology) effective 1/1/2010 OR Certificate in Cancer Registry Management or Cancer Information Management form a NCRA-accredited program. 2. Minimum of 1 year in a related field; cancer, nursing, medical records, or health science. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Knowledge in tumor registry operations, tumor staging, diagnostic tests and treatments. Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. Certified Tumor Registrar.
