SCRAP is searching for an energetic and outgoing individual to fill the role of Site Executive Director. Providing excellent leadership and vision in a welcoming environment. They will maintain positive relationships and grow our mission within the Site's local community.

SCRAP's mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. To fulfill our mission, SCRAP operates a donation-based creative reuse store and education programming.

JOB SUMMARY

The Director provides onsite leadership that will best serve the needs of SCRAP and the growing reuse community. The Director oversees operations, community outreach and local fundraising. They cultivate relationships with local stakeholders and participates with staff in community engagement as the primary SCRAP Ambassador. The Director is responsible for all financial, operational and administrative activities, including, but not limited to: fiscal management, staff development, equity and inclusion work, organizational and strategic development, fundraising, grant writing, marketing and public relations, creative reuse center oversight, and partnerships. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and Leadership Team and exercise independent judgement and leadership skills.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

General Administration

  • Ensures that operations align with the mission and long-range strategies in a consistent and timely manner

  • Participates in developing strategic goals

  • Works with the National Admin Team to create and implement work plans

  • Operationalizes strategic goals

  • Prepares written reports

  • Monitors program metrics

  • Oversees the staff and workflow functions

  • Oversees programs and services - reporting to the Chief Executive

  • Oversees building maintenance and repairs

  • Approves and signs non-binding agreements

Supervision and Personnel Management

  • Creates an environment for empowering staff development and teamwork

  • Assists maintaining confidential employee records on site with the National Admin Team

  • Approves employee payroll on time

  • Approves time off requests

  • Mentors staff

  • Responsible for all hiring, development, disciplinary and terminating responsibilities for staff - with final approval from the National Admin Team

  • Maintains a positive and productive work environment at all times

  • Reports to the HR Specialist and the Chief Executive regarding potential HR issues

  • Ensures compliance with State Statutes and best employment practices

  • Adheres to wage and hour laws

  • With the National Admin Team communicates and maintains board-approved Employee Policies

Financial Management

  • Ensures that programs operate within budget

  • Develops an annual operations budget with the Chief Executive, Finance Coordinator, and Board Treasurer

  • Approves expenditures within budget

  • Leads the planning and execution of local fundraising activities

  • Establishes, maintains and executes a robust fundraising plan to achieve Board-approved fundraising goals

Community Engagement

  • Reviews and approves all external communications for the local Store

  • Ensures that all external communications are consistent with SCRAP branding guidelines from the SCRAP Brand Book.

  • Ensures that advertising, newsletters, promotional pieces and other branded communications are submitted for brand checks

  • Builds relationships with local stakeholders

  • Acts as a primary SCRAP Ambassador to the community

  • Represents the programs and points of view of the organization to local agencies, organizations, and the general public

  • Establishes and maintains sound cooperative and working partnerships, with schools, government agencies, peer agencies, and for-profit businesses

  • Prioritizes incoming outreach requests with staff

  • Positively and creatively raises the awareness of the local store and its programs throughout the community

  • Develops creative solutions with local stakeholders and partners to receive mutual benefit from events, activities, and publicity

Other Duties

  • Special projects and other duties as needed and assigned by National Admin Team or Executive Leadership

Qualifications

  • Four-year Degree in Business, Administration, Finance, Environmental Studies, Arts Management or Equivalent Work Experience

  • Retail management experience

  • Experience managing 5-10 employees

  • Nonprofit experience either as an employee or a member of the board of directors

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in grant writing a plus

  • Work in the reuse sector a plus

Working Conditions

  • A high frequency of unassisted heavy moving of items (up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis per shift)

  • Position oneself to bending, stooping and climbing

  • Being in a stationary position (standing, sitting or walking) for extended periods of times

  • Working in hot and cold climates

Qualities

  • Must have a passion for SCRAP's mission

  • Must have an understanding of the creative reuse sector

  • Must have a commitment to reuse

  • Must be an exceptional team player who exercises independent judgment and can work independently or with a team

  • Must be highly organized, have exceptional time-management skills and reliable

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Experience creating and maintaining operational manuals

Expectations of all SCRAP Staff:

Work as part of a team with other staff, volunteers, and programs to fulfill SCRAP's mission; communicate effectively and focus on good stakeholder relations; greet stakeholders professionally, warmly and helpfully; stay current with the environmental services community and sources of information and referrals for callers and customers; stay current with developments in reuse and recycling, including legislation and availability of recyclable materials markets; when necessary, say "no" tactfully and suggest other community resources to meet appropriate needs; and is an ambassador for SCRAP in the community.
