Job Summary:
Are you an experienced research professional passionate about improving the health and well-being of Wisconsin residents? The Emergency Care Systems Laboratory (ECSL) has an exciting opportunity for a Scientist to lead their expanding and cutting-edge research in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
The DEM has created the ECSL to better align and harness our research and operational partnerships to achieve our mission. DEM faculty and staff organize and deliver emergency care via strong partnerships across the health system and community.
The department is nationally known for its patient care innovations, close alignment between clinical operations, education, and research, and a culture that supports rapid cycle quality improvements. Critically, DEM has experience both creating and rigorously evaluating and disseminating care innovations using both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
The ECSL is transdisciplinary, including clinical operations (e.g., physician, nursing), educators, and researchers (e.g., health services, engineering, data science, nursing, design). Further, it collaborates closely with UW and UW Health entities. The ECSL leverages existing strengths of UW and UW Health, as UW is a leader in rigorous research and UW Health is a leader in the adoption of many technologies critical to the future of emergency care (e.g., predictive analytics, clinical decision support, artificial intelligence). Additionally, it provides an academic home for trainees and faculty to work at the interface between UW and UW Health on important and impactful emergency care topics.
The laboratory is looking for an energetic, mission-driven, community-focused PhD-level (or equivalent) scientist to join our team. This individual will work closely with diverse faculty across UW and other institutions who have expertise in domains including statistics, engineering, informatics, nursing, and epidemiology.
Responsibilities will include identifying research problems, designing research studies, writing study protocols, performing and supervising research/research teams, interpreting research results, presenting results at professional meetings, and submitting scholarly publications. Additionally, the Scientist will identify and secure research funding in conjunction with the rest of the team. Depending on experience, the Scientist may supervise staff.
Responsibilities:
Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and prepares and/or presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.
