We are seeking an individual who is passionate about joining a team in the manufacturing of high quality laminates and films used in a variety of applications including on cabinetry in kitchen and bath applications, countertops and paneling in recreational vehicles and in the enhancement of interior retail spaces.

Job Summary

Under direction of the Technical Manager, the Scientist will be responsible for the development of new polymeric coatings for the laminate films industry. Using a data-driven approach, this individual will be responsible for lab-scale formulation through scale-up to full production. This role will interact closely with the process engineering and production teams to drive projects to completion through successful handovers to the production team. This role will also support production on an as-needed basis with coatings related issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Formulate water-borne, solvent-borne, and UV coatings for film substrates

• Screen new materials and evaluate chemical and physical properties against project goals

• Develop and execute plans for pilot, scale-up, and pre-production factory trials

• Perform physical and chemical testing of coated samples

• Document experimental and trial results

• Analyze data and recommend path forward

• Provide support to production and engineering teams for troubleshooting and root-cause analysis

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent

Preferred Skills, Ability, Knowledge & Qualifications

• Analytical/problem solving

• Excellent communication (written and oral)

• Laboratory proficiency

• Statistical analysis

• Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, etc.)

• Project management skills ·

• Statistical software proficiency (Minitab, JMP)

• Inks and coatings, formulation, product development for film substrates experience

Work Environment and Environmental Conditions

• Frequently remains in a stationary position 50% of the time

• Frequently moves about the site to perform job functions

• Constantly operates a computer or other site specific machinery

• Occasionally ascends/descends steps

• Constantly communicates and exchanges work information with others

• Occasionally observes, inspects, distinguishes work documents and activities

• Frequently produces memorandum and other long documents

• 10% of time spent away from typical office location
