Position description:

Calico is inviting applications from scientists who are excited to join an interdisciplinary team dedicated to gaining a deeper understanding of the role of stress signaling pathways in disease and aging which will inform our drug development efforts. We are looking for a highly motivated and creative scientist who is trained as an experimentalist in the area of molecular or cellular biology and has gained extensive experience with statistical and analytic techniques necessary for integrating 'omics data. This position is for someone who excels at wet lab, designs complex experiments that integrate diverse information and utilize available resources to effectively answer biological question.

Position requirements:

  • A Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, genomics, genetics or related science, plus a completed postdoc or 3+ years of work experience

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong record of productivity with impactful scientific publications and a track record of effective collaboration

  • Experience developing and/or applying cutting edge 'omic technologies such as ribosome profiling, bulk and single-cell RNA-seq and proteomics

  • Extensive data analytical skills including analysis of public data to identify dysregulated pathways as well as analysis of functional genomics (CRISPR/siRNA) screens

  • Must be capable of working independently but also be an effective team player and have excellent communication skills

Responsibilities What you'll do:● Contribute to awesome products, but also maintain great freedom to pursue your ownideas in a dynamic R&D environment.● Perform "big data" analyses on a tremendous and ever-growing trove of genomic data.● Develop software packages/tools/databases that enhance current products and/or seednew products.● Publish results in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and generateintellectual property.● Serve as the expert scientist who can turn a hunch or intuition—your own or acolleague's—into a rigorous quantitative analysis that can be easily communicated to arange of parties internally and externally.● Thrive on handling diverse projects with a range of time-scales.● Work closely with groups in R&D but also grow professionally by interfacing with groupsacross the organization, e.g., engineering, marketing, sales, medical affairs, and legal. Qualifications Suggested qualifications (feel encouraged to apply even if not all are met):● PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computational Biology, Biophysics, Physics,Computer Science, Statistics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related discipline.● Track record of peer-reviewed publications in well-respected journals; we're especiallyinterested in those where you played a driving role.● Strong software skills, preferably with fluency in Python and familiarity with databases.● Experience with Next Generation Sequencing.● Well versed in statistics and making quantitative arguments from first principles.● Conversant in molecular biology and genetics.● A sense of humility and an eagerness to contribute to a supportive team.
