Jones Edmunds, one of ENR's top 500 design firms has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Scientist in our Gainesville Office.
The Scientist uses scientific education and knowledge, professional judgment and discretion, to prepare environmental assessments, reports, and evaluations for environmental projects. Projects may include wildlife studies, wetland delineations/replacement, natural system design, environmental permitting documents, soils studies, rare plant studies, watershed hydrology, floodplains, water budget, and pollutant loading or related work. This position understands the requirements of federal, state, and local environmental legislation. The Scientist regularly communicates with Project Managers regarding project activities and executes tasks as assigned by the Project Manager. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of various projects assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform model development; model integration and process development; and research, collection, compilation, and analysis of data.
Prepare complete project document consistent with project plans and within project scope and budget.
Communicate regularly with the Project Manager on project activities and track project progress on completed work relative to agreed-on scope and deliverable goals.
Participate in preparing permit applications.
Evaluate, select, and apply scientific techniques.
Perform literature reviews and obtain required project data.
May perform GIS analysis.
May contribute to technical reports, papers, and presentations.
Obtain, update, review, and correlate data and recognize discrepancies in results using a series of related detailed steps or processes.
Engage in continuing professional development, and apply new scientific information as appropriate.
Quality Program Responsibility
Assume responsibility for the quality of work submitted. Review work product before submitting it to the next review level.
Adhere to project deadlines; keep the Project Manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
Review the work of Associate Scientists that was completed under his/her direction.
Submit work for quality control review on time and in a complete format.
Provide information to the marketing team and others in the Company as requested.
May interact directly with clients.
Present a professional and positive image of Jones Edmunds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: BS in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, Environmental, Hydrology, or related sciences from accredited college or university
Registration: Florida Professional Geologist (where applicable)
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive consulting or related experience
MS in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for 1 year of experience
PhD in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for 2 years of experience
Other: Valid Drivers License with an acceptable MVR
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must have knowledge of the practical applications of environmental/geosciences, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and evaluate services. Must have the ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems and to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Must be skilled at assessing client needs, meeting service quality standards, and evaluating client satisfaction.
