Flare Therapeutics is a biotechnology company pioneering a new therapeutic space with a novel approach to decipher the biology of transcription factors to develop small molecule medicines. Based on insights from the seminal work of its scientific founders, Flare's team has uncovered 'switch sites,' druggable regions that are key targets for transcription factor regulation, to address mutations that cause disease. Flare's drug discovery efforts to target switch sites has rapidly advanced, resulting in an emerging pipeline of research programs that address well-validated genetically-defined transcription factors, initially focused on precision oncology with future potential in neurology, rare genetic disorders, immunology and inflammation.

We are a collective of brilliant fires, trailblazing a path to conquer transcription factors and create cutting-edge medicines for patients. We embrace diversity in all its forms, experiences, and viewpoints. We are inspired by the unknown and willing to take risks. We are passionate about the science we pursue and compassionate about the patients it stands to benefit. And we respect, value, and believe in each other.

Flare Therapeutics is seeking a Scientist I/II to join the Mass spectrometry and Proteomics team. Join a multidisciplinary team that combines cutting-edge biochemistry, chemical biology with high resolution mass spectrometry to unlock "undruggable" transcription factors with precision driven drug discovery. The Scientist I/II will have the opportunity to play a key role in driving forward early-stage transcription factor targets using mass spectrometry focused proteomics, high-throughput tandem mass tags (TMT), automated methods with a focus on targeted, global and PTM workflows. The candidate will also be responsible for developing, deploying, and designing new state-of-the-art workflows for screening large chemical libraries focused on transcription factors.

In this role you will…

  • Design and execute experiments to inform target engagement on transcription factors using a variety of approaches which include tissue cell culture, automated workflows and characterization using mass-spectrometry based proteomics

  • Lead projects for developing and optimizing existing or new methods for sample preparation, with an eye towards scalability and automation

  • Develop and execute high-throughput global proteomics characterization of transcription factors using isotope labeling, TMT, alternative proteases, targeted proteomics (PRM or equivalent) and data-independent acquisition (DIA) workflows

  • Maintain mass spectrometry hardware and software for Flare's state-of-the art screening pipeline

  • Generate data in a timely manner; individually support or lead discovery initiatives and regularly contribute/present at project team and company meetings

  • Work closely with biology, biochemistry, chemistry and compound management teams in early discovery to optimize screening on high-value transcription factors

About you…

  • You have a PhD in chemical biology, biochemistry or analytical chemistry

  • You have 0-3+ years of experience in postdoc position or industry, or a master's degree with 4+ years of industry experience

  • You have knowledge of proteomics principles and hands-on experience in mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics that includes TMT labeling, LFQ, DDA, DIA and targeted proteomics, experience with intact-MS, HDX and SILAC is a plus

  • You have hands-on experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting proteomics datasets generated from biological samples, R/python experience is preferred but not required

  • You have prior experience with assay development, sample prep automation, in vitro cell culturing, HPLC fractionation and studying mechanisms of target engagement using small molecules

  • You have a deep understanding of proteomics sample preparations using both 96- and 384-well plate formats

  • You have experience operating and maintaining HPLCs, nanoLCs and mass spectrometers (ThermoFisher Tribrids) is preferred but not required

  • You have a desire to work in a lab-based role within a highly adaptive, fast-paced collaborative environment and can creatively solve problems through innovation and communication

  • You have self-motivation, great decision making, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills

  • You enjoy fostering a culture of innovation

  • You love science and have a sense of humor
